Kat + Pat by Jack Jones Weddings

We met in our first year of high school and were in the same friendship circle but were never on each other’s radar. It wasn’t until 6 years after we finished school that we reconnected and officially started dating in 2018. It was so natural and easy because we already had such a strong friendship and long history, everything just fell into place.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Kat – I’m Katherine, a graphic designer and a lover of all things creative. I enjoy visiting galleries and live gigs, being by the ocean, and spending time with my family and friends.

Pat -I’m Patrick and I work in the banking industry in financial crime. During my free time, I love to go exploring, go on food adventures and spend time with family and friends. I enjoy puzzles, gadgets, and being outdoors.

When did you first realize that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

Kat – For me, it was early on in our relationship, and I couldn’t imagine a life without Patrick by my side. We spoke openly about what our lives would look like together and all the exciting and challenging things we would do together.

Pat – I have always appreciated the thoughtful nature and kindness of Katherine. After a year of dating, I saw her deep-rooted values of love, care, and respect for those around her. I knew that she was the one for me

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Pat – Yes! It was during the lockdown. I had originally planned for us to go to Tasmania but with the never-ending lockdown, I couldn’t wait any longer. During the week I had multiple attempts of surgically opening KinderSurprise eggs to replace the toy inside with the ring and a note. This was much harder than I had anticipated but I got there in the end. We went on a walk to a harbor lookout, trying not to be suspicious, I popped into a local supermarket and bought us two Kinder surprise eggs. Once we got to the lookout I quickly switched the eggs to the one with the ring inside. I ate my chocolate so quickly while Katherine struggled to peel the foil offers-glad she didn’t notice it had been tampered with. By the time she opened up the ‘surprise,’ I was already down on one knee… and the rest is history

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

Kat – We wanted a wedding that reflected us as a couple so that we could look back on it in years to come and still love what we chose. It was really important to us that we incorporated elements from both of our heritages. We had a traditional Chinese tea ceremony in the morning followed by our ceremony and reception in the evening. We decided to take our photos prior to our ceremony so we could spend more time with our guests, and our ceremony flowed straight into the reception. The Grounds of Alexandria was perfect as we were looking for a venue that incorporated an indoor and outdoor setting with lots of greenery. One of Patrick’snon-negotiables was that we MUST have a sax player. It really created a fun atmosphere where our guests could boogie and let loose

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, and is there a story?

Kat -When looking for a wedding dress it was important to me that it was an Australian designer. I fell in love with my gown from Karen Willis Holmes immediately. All the gorgeous beading and scalloped details meant I could wear less jewelry and let the dress speak for itself. I wore my hair up to show off the stunning cut-outback. Hanging from my bouquet was a beaded horseshoe that my Mum had on her wedding bouquet for good luck.

Pat – I have always wanted to wear a tuxedo and when is a better opportunity than at your own wedding. I went with a black tuxedo from Institchu, something classic to compliment Katherine. I wanted to incorporate a touch of gold in my fit and wore a pair of black dress shoes with a little gold detail
