We were in the Cotswolds with our dog on a beautiful sunny day, walking through an orchard when camera-shy Gordon insisted on a selfie, then got down on one knee.
Kate —— We live in the southwest of London with our three-year-old cocker spaniel Angus and love heading to the coast or the Cotswolds for weekends away and long walks. We love to travel to new places and any opportunity to try new food and wine. Sadly, we don’t have a glamorous meet-cute! We met on a night out when we were university students, mixing with friends in the same circle. We continued to meet on nights out until Gordon took the plunge and asked me for a date to the cinema.
Gordon —— We had numerous years of travelling back and forth between London and Oxford, but from the moment we met, we were pretty much inseparable, making those miles of travel worth it.
Kate —— Given that I’m such a control freak, I’m still not sure how I didn’t see the proposal coming! We were in the Cotswolds with our dog on a beautiful sunny day, walking through an orchard when camera-shy Gordon insisted on a selfie, then got down on one knee. We then consumed far too much champagne, and had a spa day the day after.
Gordon —— Our wedding day couldn’t have exceeded our expectations more. We always knew we wanted a traditional English church wedding in the Cotswolds with lots of good food and wine, beautiful flowers and music. We also wanted neutral colours as the venue is so stunning it didn’t need much, so we focused on greens, whites and blues with lots of candles.
Kate —— I wanted to follow the ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’ tradition. I had a blue ribbon from Gordon’s late grandmother tied onto my bouquet, and wore my mother’s gorgeous old diamond drop earrings and a beautiful new diamond bracelet that Gordon gifted me on the morning of the wedding. After dinner, by the time I had the opportunity to get a margarita, the bar had run out.
I had a bit of a Bridezilla moment which I still cringe at to this day, followed by the bar staff scrambling to “get the bride a margarita!”. I’m actually really nice and not demanding – I promise! We were happy to splurge on the photographer because your wedding day is over so quickly and it was important to us to make sure we had amazing photos to look back on over the years. I’m not sure we’ll ever stop looking at them!
