Tell us how you meet each other?

We met each other at Uni, both studying mechanical engineering. We started talking when Nathan got an answer to a quiz correct that Katie got wrong.

We started studying together and realised that we had a lot in common and got along really well.

Tell us about the proposal?

We had been together for nearly 6 years, and Nathan had been wanting to marry Katie for most of it. Katie finally relented and let Nathan know she wanted to get married. We bought the ring together and picked a date to announce it to our friends and family. The day we were going to announce it, Nathan woke Katie up at 4am and rolled over in bed and proposed in a very simple but real way.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

We are both mechanical engineers and work as project managers. We often call each other up during the day to ask for each other’s help or advise on issues we are having on our projects. We love our puppy Piper (who was our flower girl), our family, our friends, and good food – all of which we made sure was involved in our wedding.

Our relationship is built on trust, honesty, battles on intellect and a lot of love – we always try and support each other and help each other to shine. Although we are both stubborn, we manage to get through differences of opinions and have fun along the way.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

The style of our wedding was relaxed, fun and easy. We had it on Nathan’s family property, so the day was rustic feeling with a lot of wood, native flowers, and scenic views. One of our favourite settings was the view at the ceremony, as it looked over Hartley Vale and was just magnificent.

Tell us about your main outfits:

Katie’s dress was from Sposabella Bridal in Wollongong, it was a layered Morilee dress that she fell in love with on her first shopping trip.

Nathan wore a simple outfit of tan pants and a Navy jacket, with a bowtie from Peggy and Finn.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

One of the most memorable parts of the day was getting to see most of our friends and family that we hadn’t seen since before COVID started. We managed to have most of our original guest list come, so it was amazing to see everyone after the crazy year. Another unique part of the wedding was Katie’s brother Mitch was the celebrant and MC and made the whole day so special and personalised, funny, and relaxed. Since we know him so well, it was a relaxing and comforting ceremony where we could just enjoy ourselves. In keeping with the chilled style of the day – we signed the marriage documents at the bar! This was very much our style, as we didn’t want the formalities to get in the way of having a drink with loved ones.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

I don’t think we are qualified to be soliciting advice, but we would just say that we try and make the most of everything and enjoy small moments together. Not everything has to be a grand gesture – the combination of little actions for your partner accumulate and become so much more meaningful than any one action could ever be.
