Kelly + Toby by Kinship by Kristy

We vibed immediately and our relationship has always been very simple and easy.  That being said, I’m American and my visa was due to expire within the first 18 months of our relationship. This definitely expedited the seriousness of  our relationship, and we then went through the vigorous partnership visa process. So although we’ve only just married, we’ve been in a formal partnership for quite some time!

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Kelly â€” From 9-5, I design and develop homewares for a well known aussie online retailer. Its a dream job! I am obsessed with interior design, trends and beautiful spaces. Outside my 9-5, i train 5 days a week as a triple jumper, in the gym and on the track.

Toby — I work in finance within the infrastructure sector, and I am just about to start my first term studying for an MBA. I am a keen Essendon supporter, and enjoy doing DIY renovations on our 1800’s terrace on the weekends. I also like getting out on my road bike and my vespa on the weekends.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

Toby — We met on bumble in 2016. For our first date, we played squash at the local sports centre. It was awkward and hilarious.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Toby — I proposed after a day swimming with stingrays at  Seal Rocks in NSW. I really wanted to propose underwater but i was paranoid I would lose the ring. Instead, on the drive home we stopped at the beach to check out the sunset and I proposed. We had been swimming all day so we were both wet and freezing.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

Kelly â€” We didn’t want a traditional wedding – we wanted a party! So the vibe had to be relaxed. Both of us aren’t the romantic type, and many typical wedding traditions just didn’t resonate with us. We didnt have a wedding party, and we walked down the aisle together. We also wanted to feel comfortable and relaxed in the space, and we were so incredibly lucky that Tobys Auntie and Uncle allowed us to marry at their beautiful home.

Although i did have a vision for the styling, the best thing i did was trust my florist and coordinators and let them take the reigns. I gave April from Fig and Willow flower bar some reference images  and colour palette, but other than that, she completely owned it and it was such a treat on the day to see what she came up with.
