LAURA + WALKER by Oli Sansom, Briars Atlas

Walker: Laura and I appreciate the small things in life and are content with nothing more than each other’s company. She is a lawyer and I work in sales for a vitamin company.

We met on a dating app in December 2017 while living in Sydney, and chatted for a week before arranging a meeting just before Christmas. We first met in person at the Paddington Inn pub for a Sunday afternoon drink. There was a spark straight away, and dinner and post-dinner drinks were shared.

Laura: Walker called his brother, Richard, and his groomsmen, Nick and Andrew, the day after meeting me and told them, “I met my future wife last night.” He proposed on a weekend away in the Hunter Valley in February, 2019. We were there to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers play at a winery. The day started very early with a beautiful hot air balloon ride. After a champagne breakfast, we went back to our Airbnb for a nap, then went wine tasting before dropping the car back at the house before the concert. It was within that 10-minute window that Walker chose to propose, in the hallway of the Airbnb. It was rushed, it was unexpected, and it was totally us.

Our wedding was small and intimate, with 65 guests. We couldn’t have been happier with how it all came together on the day. When we first visited The Convent in Daylesford we knew it was the venue for us. The gardens and the building are beautiful and the staff are generous and friendly. It felt welcoming and there was a real sense of familiarity from day one. My Suzanne Harward dress reflects our style perfectly: it wasn’t traditional white, but rather a beautiful Italian floral lace. The team blended their Songbird and Bluebird gowns to create my perfect dress.

Walker chose a velvet jacket with a traditional suit pant. When the dark navy he originally wanted wasn’t available, he chose a slightly brighter blue, which turned out to be the perfect colour. Unique but not too ‘out there’. We were 14 weeks pregnant on the wedding day, and announced the exciting news during the speeches. It was really special being able to share that news with all our closest family and friends at the same time. Shortly before our wedding, we bought a house in Melbourne and recently moved there.

We have a cute French Bulldog named Bonnie who is convinced she is a human and deserves to be treated as such (and we wouldn’t have it any other way). We’ll be interested to see how she handles being a big sister when our little boy is born in April 2020!
