We met the old-school way, at the local pub back in 2013. I was just 21 years old, newly single and ready to party. Tim was out with his mates from the footy club and had been celebrating a win for several hours before our paths crossed. We may have been young, but Tim had “old world” charm, he was attentive, charming, and seemed far more mature than I was.
Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
Tim and I are both from Melbourne, Australia. I work in the urban planning space while Tim works in finance. We’ve come out of this three-month wedding planning whirlwind thinking we’d make a powerhouse wedding planning duo!
We both share a love for our fur babies, Summer and Remi, our skiing holidays, and generally getting outdoors for a run or reading a book on the beach. We have a deep appreciation for a good glass of wine, and beautiful architecture and are lucky enough to live on the doorstep of all of Melbourne’s culinary delights which we regularly indulge in.
When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
Our relationship had a couple of false starts. Our first encounter at the pub was a case of meeting your perfect person at the wrong time. There was an extended period of time that I spent backpacking across Europe in which we initially parted ways. Then during our early to mid-20s, we were individually focused on building our careers, travelling and generally just growing up.
We had very little contact with each other until about 5-6 years ago when we rekindled the romance. There was always a spark between us, so it wasn’t difficult to work out that we were perfect for each other. The time apart gave us an opportunity to work out who we were as individuals, and to give us the confidence to pursue something more meaningful together.
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
Tim proposed in August 2022, on a ski trip that we had organised just outside of Queenstown in New Zealand. He had been playing the long game for years, telling me (and our families) that marriage wasn’t a priority for him. I didn’t see the proposal coming at all!
We were ambling along the Arrow River when Tim dropped down on one knee to pop the question. It was honestly the best surprise, and he did so well to keep it under wraps! We spent the afternoon sitting in the sun people-watching before heading to a wine bar for celebratory champagne. It was the perfect setting and afternoon.
Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
By virtue of the fact that I didn’t think marriage was on the cards for us, I didn’t have any preconceptions or ideas about what I wanted our day to look like. Tim has grown up spending every summer on the Mornington Peninsula, so he was keen to find a venue down the coast. This provided a great starting point, from where we took a few months to decide whether we wanted a micro-wedding or something a little more traditional.
In three short months, we managed to bring together our perfect day, which we couldn’t have pulled off without our supportive families, and wonderful vendor team. Our vision for the day boiled down to who we are as a couple, and what is important to us. Our brief was to create a day that felt effortless, generous, fun and relaxed, and we invested our money in aspects of the day that would deliver these values.
