Lucy + Sam by Jonny Scott Photo

We became friends at school and started dating soon after Sam graduated, my first impression of Sam was that he was so kind and hilarious.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Lucy – I work in fashion for a consulting and sales agency Knight Collective, and Sam is an electrician. In 2022 we relocated back to NZ after living in Sydney, bringing our home and our darling miniature sausage dog Tina. We love cooking and hosting dinner parties for our friends and drinking spicy margs. Sam loves watching and playing rugby, and I love watching real housewives.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

Lucy – I travel a lot with work and Sam is the person I love coming home to. When my work asked me to relocate to Sydney in 2019, without question Sam moved with me – his support is like nothing else and we started a new chapter of our lives together on Sydney’s northern beaches.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Lucy – About 200 meters from our apartment in Avalon Beach was the most beautiful jeweller, Natalie Marie Jewellery, without my knowledge Sam chose a diamond with their team and they made the most beautiful ring. He had the ring hiding in his drawer for quite some time waiting for the perfect moment and he had the end of the year as his deadline – he took that all the way and proposed on New Year’s Eve at Sandy Beach after a swim. It was the most beautiful moment, I was beyond happy and loved that it was such a surprise, Sam had stocked the fridge with Bollinger and we had a NYE party with our friends to celebrate.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

Lucy – Once we decided to have the wedding at my family home we felt it was important to enlist the help of an expert to bring our wedding to life. We had the most incredible wedding planner and stylist, Steph from Holly & Co, after sharing a mood board she referred to our style as “Mediterranean Romance”. We wanted a relaxed but elevated feeling, lots of olive leaf in amongst the florals and inspired by the boat house in Palm Beach I was quite obsessed with having lemons in the styling, there were bowls overflowing with lemons everywhere, lemons in the gin and tonics, and each place name was a lemon looped with a piece of twine and fresh rosemary tied to a handwritten nametag, this also added a lovely scent to the space. We had fairy lights twinkling everywhere, large white pots with olive trees and hydrangeas planted inside, and a big cloud of olive and gypsophila hanging in the centre of the space.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

Lucy – The food and drinks, we wanted everything to be delicious and plentiful, we had an oyster bar after the ceremony along with canapes, followed by beautiful shared-style mains on each table, and late-night mini cheeseburgers, mini cheese toasties and cake. We had our favourite AIX rose alongside other gorgeous wines from across the world. Little Wolf exceeded every expectation, they were so wonderful to work with, and the wait staff and bartenders were all so lovely too.
