Maddie & Brenton by The Barefoot Photographer

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

We live in a small regional town in Western Australia. We met at the local pub and really enjoyed getting to know each other.

Our relationship at first wasn’t accepted by a lot of my (Maddie’s) family due to the 10 year age difference (Maddie being younger) but Brenton eventually won everyone over. After 4 years together, Brenton proposed whilst on holiday in South Africa overlooking the most magical valley. We had originally planned to get married on the leap year, 29 Feb 2020, but had some curve balls thrown our way which meant we had to move our wedding date forward. This ended up being a blessing in disguise as I don’t think either of us could have waited that long! We love spending time with each other and love to travel and try new and exciting things as a couple. We both also respect that we have different goals and passions and help each other fulfil these as individuals.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

Our wedding day was everything we wanted. A celebration of love, followed by an epic party with great food and all of our favourite people. We chose Denmark WA, because we have both always loved it down there, the beaches and the bush and all the beautiful people. I planned and styled the wedding with the help of our amazing vendors and took inspiration from the surroundings at Parry Beach breaks. The flowers were chosen to complement the blues in the crown and the simplistic approach to styling was chosen to enhance the natural beauty of the environment we were in. We fell in love with our venue and then planned everything around that. We both wanted a cocktail style wedding so everyone could mingle and catch up and we had time to spend with everyone.

Tell us about your main outfits:

Maddie wanted something different and when looking at dresses and different designers, Rue De Seine stood out. They have the most beautiful collections of gowns and hers was chosen for the beautiful lace detailing. Vicki from Through the White Door was amazing and so helpful during the process. Brenton from day one knew he was going to wear shorts. This man doesn’t even wear pants in the snow so shorts was the obvious option for the boys and it really complimented the relaxed feel of the day. The subtle colour difference from Brenton’s suit jacket to the groomsmen’s gave a nice point of difference and made him stand out.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

One of our favourite parts of the day was having my uncle and aunty (Velvet Divan) sing me down the aisle. They are currently travelling Australia and flew over to WA for the wedding and having them sing our aisle song (which was their own rendition of Blink 182’s All the Small Things) was super special. We also had a close friend write a poem which she read during the ceremony which we both loved. We hadn’t heard it prior to the ceremony so it was a nice surprise to hear it on the day.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

Show up for each other every day. Grow together, communicate openly and respect each other’s values. In regards to planning your wedding, make sure you and your photographer/s have a good connection, focus on the things that are important to you and your partner and enjoy the planning process! And if you can’t, hire a wedding planner!
