Maddy + Brett by Stacey McLean

Maddy planned to surprise Brett for his birthday with a night at EOS as he had always wanted to go… Little did she know that Brett had planned to propose.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Maddy is in finance and loves a good coffee and the beach. Brett is in construction and loves camping and anything sports-related. We love to explore Aus in our camper with our two boys, Leo & Max, and our doggo Myah.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We had gone to the same school, so we knew each other, but we didn’t start talking until a mutual friend introduced us. From there, we were inseparable. We both had similar interests and got along so well that we would text all day, every day.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

We went on a camping trip and did the great ocean road, away from the hustle and bustle of work we were able to just appreciate each other and spend quality time together. Not long after, we had our son, Leo; watching each other become parents and a family, we knew we had something special. We have so many amazing memories and so many more dreams of what’s to come.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Maddy planned to surprise Brett for his birthday with a night at EOS as he had always wanted to go… Little did she know that Brett had planned to propose. We went to dinner and, on the way, stopped along the river Torrens, where he proposed. After the proposal, we went to dinner, and to Maddy’s surprise, all her besties and closest friends were there to celebrate our engagement. Brett planned the whole thing, and I had no clue!

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding.

We were so unsure of what we wanted at first, we thought small, intimate and food truck vibes, but we ended up with the complete opposite. We fell in love with the Kingsford and felt the styling had to match, we wanted very neutral, classic look and went with a lot of black and whites. Our florist was amazing and added some colour which was the perfect touch. We loved the way it all came together.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

Most of our vendors chose the best; it was important to us to have amazing photography and videography to remember the day, and Stacey did not disappoint. She captured our day perfectly. We also had the most incredible celebrant and florist. These were all things that were super important to us, and we think they did amazing!

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

There is just so much planning and little details that you don’t even think about on the day!!! Little things you stress over in the lead-up that, once you’re in the moment, don’t matter! We also laugh at our 2-year-old Max, refusing to walk down the aisle and just being a classic 2-year-old.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

Maddy had an idea of the style she wanted, but after trying multiple dress shops, she fell in love with Caleche. The way they work and capture everything exactly as you dreamt it to be. Each fitting, watching your design come together, was more and more exciting.

Brett chose Calibre for his suit, he loved the fit and the fact our boys Leo and Max could get mini matching ones.
