When they arrived, a waiter took them to a wine room, which, to Jordyn’s surprise, had been decorated in photos of every year she and Tom had spent together, with Tom waiting in the corner under a string of fairy lights. She was ecstatic.
Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
We are high school sweethearts who have been dating since we were 15 years old. Through all the trials and tribulations of growing up, we are lucky to have only grown closer together as we got older. Our wedding day marked 10 years of dating. We have shared many adventures along the way. From being on safari in Africa, hiking in the Amazon rainforest, or just at home on the couch, we always have the most fun when we’re together.
How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We met in Year 7 on the school bus. Tom recalls being besotted with Jordyn instantly, whereas Jordyn couldn’t tell Tom and his mate Treh apart for quite a while.
We became close friends, and our love story began at the age of 15 when Jordyn’s parents agreed to her having a boyfriend. As they say, the rest is history.
When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
Our first international trip after high school. Everything went wrong, but everything was fine because we were together. We realised we were a great team out in the real world. We faced losing a passport, having all our camping gear stolen from us and a broken-down van on the morning of our flight home with laughter and teamwork. We have been facing all of life’s challenges in the same way ever since!
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
Tom proposed at a gorgeous vineyard near where we live. It is a special place for us as Jordyn’s parents and Tom’s sister got married there.
Jordyn suspected something was up but didn’t expect Tom to propose until after their new house was built. He caught her off guard by popping the question a few months before it was finished.
Tom had plans to throw an engagement party straight after the proposal at a local restaurant but had to cancel due to a COVID lockdown.
Instead, he employed Jordyn’s best friend to ask her for drinks at the local winery on a Saturday afternoon. When they arrived, a waiter took them to a wine room, which, to Jordyn’s surprise, had been decorated in photos of every year she and Tom had spent together, with Tom waiting in the corner under a string of fairy lights. She was ecstatic.
Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding.
We wanted our wedding to be really fun, a big party. We didn’t want it to be too formal.
Jordyn loves cocktails, and it was imperative that the wedding have them.
As for styling, Jordyn loves interiors and is usually a neutral girl. However, she wanted to have fun with the colour palette. We went for a summery, bright colour palette consisting of pastel green, coral, blush, yellow and lilac.
One of Jordyn’s close friends, Katie, is extremely handy when it comes to arts and crafts. They worked together to create all of the signage and stationery. Katie brought the vision to life and really knocked it out of the park with the beautiful linen signage.
What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
We were happy to splurge on our outfits. You only get one wedding day, and you want to feel your best!
We were also happy to splurge on food, drinks and entertainment. It was really important to us that the dance floor was pumping, as that’s what everyone remembers!
Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
Our wedding day was 41 degrees. There was a lot of last-minute stress in dealing with the extreme forecast, such as moving our ceremony location, purchasing fans and changing all the girl’s hairstyles.
Jordyn’s sister’s boyfriend was transporting the cake to the venue, and his car broke down due to the heat. He and Jordyn’s dad had to apply some last-minute touch ups to the cake because parts of it had melted. We didn’t even notice. It made for a funny story later, but I’m glad we didn’t know on the day.
Because of the heat, the day didn’t go as we had originally envisioned it, but it was still the greatest day ever, surrounded by our friends and family.
Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?
Jordyn had a great experience with Jane Hill Bridal. She couldn’t decide between a couple of their dresses and wished she could take different features from each. Jane Hill gladly combined them all, creating a custom dress perfect for her.
