Maria + Jeroni by Ochomilimetros

Jeroni and I met while studying in the first year of high school, fifteen years ago in our hometown, Lleida, which is an hour far from Barcelona. We are “lifelong partners”. Since then we are together and have lived in different places like Vienna, China and London.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Maria — We are currently living in Barcelona. I work in PR and Comms at Elisava’s Marketing and Communications Department. I love going to the theatre and music festivals.

Jeroni — I am economist. In my free time, I like reading and cooking Japanese food.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Jeroni — I proposed to Maria during a weekend we spent at the amazing Hotel Les Cols, in Olot. We were hiking a volcano in the area, as we are nature lovers, and when we got to the top, I asked Maria if she wanted to marry me.

Maria — We were totally alone and it was totally unexpected and beautiful.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

We wanted a very simple wedding, with all of our beloved family and friends, full of nature in a country house, where we spent the whole weekend with them.

We wanted to do it during the Summer’s Solstice Feast, that in Spain is a special period of time when we celebrate ‘Sant Joan’, a very magical night. The ceremony was held on a little hill close to the main house, with gorgeous views of this area near to our hometown and we were wrapped with colourful flowers. After the ceremony, our cousin Miguel came by surprise with a family car that he had restored for the occasion.

The dinner took place outdoors, as we were celebrating this special feast of ‘Sant Joan’, which celebrates the first night of the summer. A dinner with many elongated tables with many people in each one, with lights that marked the scene, while enjoying an incredible sunset. The party was held in the old barn of the house, where we danced with all our friends and family until late at dawn.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that was very special?

Maria — In my family, almost everyone plays one (or several) instruments – during the ceremony they played some of our favourite songs and after dinner, they surprised us with a song made up about us but with the mythical song “Clavelitos” from La Tuna, a Spanish typical and traditional band.

Jeroni — For the song that opened the dance, we chose our favourite: Univers, by Ferran Palau. After our dance, we organized “El Baile del Farollilo” (“The Lanterns Dance”), a popular dance contest that is done at local festivals in our towns lighting some lanterns – the last couple that manages to finish with the lantern-lit wins.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

Maria — For the wedding, I chose a dress from The Muse Collective. Throughout the process, Laura and Rous were in charge of finishing defining the dress, just as I had always imagined it, incredible. We included an organza jacket with ruffles, a nod to the fact that I almost always wear ruffle details in my day-to-day.

My aunt Teresa styled my hair with the same low ponytail that I usually wear, but we accompanied it with a bow made of the same fabric as the dress. I wanted to go as naturally and simply as possible, so I also asked my friend Núria to do my makeup.

I decided to wear my grandmother Martina’s engagement ring, she is no longer with us but I took her with me the whole day of the wedding. My earrings and my sisters were from Cristina Junquero, we created them especially for this occasion, with the same star shape, but my sisters were a bit bigger. We wanted to wear something very similar on that important day.

Jeroni — My father and I decided to make our suits at Toni Barceló, an artisan tailor who works in the Matarraña, a rural area in Teruel. I also wanted to bring for this special day an old clock that belonged to my grandad.
