Max + Haidee by Nikki Deles

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

H – We met in our first year at uni in the halls down at Massey university in Palmerston North in 2013. Max was late to start uni as he was helping with his Family’s Farm at the yearling sales and his friend Chris had told me a bit about him. When he finally arrived I thought he was a bit of alright, a funny guy and pretty cool.

M – I could tell straight away that she was really kind, cute, sweet and a little bit awkward.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

H – I really love animals and have been a vet nurse/vet tech for the last 6 years. I grew up on a dairy farm and always thought I would get a job with something to do with animals. I also love spending time with family and friends and are always up for a camping adventure!

M- I am a Farmer and love fishing and the outdoors.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

H – At uni Max had the patience to teach me how to drive his very old VW manual Golf.  Which was definitely not an easy feat as I was pretty keen to give up and just keep driving my automatic.

M – When I went into the jewellers to buy her a bracelet for her birthday and walked out with an engagement ring as well.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

H- Yes! For my Birthday we went up the Pinnacles in the Coromandel to stay in the hut overnight. The next morning we got up early for sunrise and Max awkwardly tried to propose on one knee on the side of a rock up at the top of the pinnacles. Through a few tears of happiness I said YES!

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

H – I had seen the dress online so found Felicity Bridal up in Auckland that stocked the dress. As soon as I had tried it on I was pretty sure that it was the one.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

We wanted it to be relaxed, slightly informal and a fun day for everyone. The pond out on Max’s Family farm always had amazing sunsets so we had decided that would be the spot.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

Our main things that we wanted to spend money on were good food, great wine and even better music! We really wanted everyone to have a great time and to dance the night away.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

We had two whole cases of Syrah wine that wasn’t drunk because the boxes looked the same as the champagne ones. So after the wedding we compromised and kept both of the undrunken cases as that is how all good marriages start right!? Happy wife, happy life.
