Rosie + Dan by Festoon Photography

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Hi, I’m Rosie. Originally born in England where I lived for 13 years before my family immigrated to New Zealand. I came over to Perth by myself about 7 years ago & have stayed here ever since. Dan is born & bred in Perth same for his family.

The two of us are keen active people.  Whether its hiking, biking, swimming, gyming or getting up early to watch the sunrise we just love to be doing stuff. We also love food! Just as well we are active really! We both love travelling too & look forward to hopefully doing more of that this year. We both have very busy jobs. I run my own hair and beauty business & Dan is the CEO for his Dad’s Trauma Cleaning business, prior to that he had been a high school teacher for a good few years.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

(Dan) I met Rosie on New Year’s Eve, 2015 at a music festival here in Perth called Origin. I was just dancing with my crew when I spotted Rosie. In my head I was thinking ‘Nah, she’s too hot’….. but I caught her attention. We stepped outside the tent & chatted for a while. A couple of days went by after the event and I got the courage to take her out to dinner and well, the rest is history as they say.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

Rosie here again, I took a trip home to NZ to see my family a few months after we had started dating. I just presumed that I’d be catching an Uber to the airport as I was having to leave in the middle of the night. But Dan so kindly offered to drive me instead which was very sweet considering it was not at a convenient time. I also wasn’t expecting it at all because it was such early days in our relationship. It was about then I realised how caring and generous he was. I love that about him. While I was away in NZ I had a great time but I just kept thinking of him a lot & I guess I kinda missed him. Yep, I think that’s when I knew.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

(Dan) We love a sunrise and I thought having that element in the proposal would be really special to Rosie. We did a sunrise walk up to Kings Park where I popped the question overlooking the city waking up. What’s funny is that it was actually meant to occur the week before but it was raining like crazy!

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

(Dan) Rosie always wanted us boys to wear cream linen which I wasn’t too sold on at the time but I am glad I took her advice as it all came together quite well. My gown (Rosie) was the first one I tried on! Which I wasn’t expecting to happen but when I did try a few more on after that they just didn’t compare. My Mum was actually out here visiting when I bought my dress. I feel very lucky that I was able to share that special moment with her.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

Shortly before we started planning our wedding we were guests at our first cocktail style wedding which we loved. We thought how casual & free flowing it was, was how we wanted the vibe of ours to be. Everyone standing around chatting, mingling, laughing & relaxed.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

Food & drink. We wanted to make sure our guests were well fed and drinks always topped up!

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

(Rosie) I am not sure when or if I’ll ever be able to laugh about it but it’s definitely a unique story to tell. Due to the way of the world at the moment we had to reschedule our wedding four times as my family & guests from NZ couldn’t get over here due to border closures. It was a very stressful two years continuously not knowing whether they would be able to get here in time and unfortunately they were never able to get here to share our special day with us. As a bride it was heart wrenching & very hard to process that I was going to be celebrating a very symbolic day without the people that meant the most to me. I felt like I couldn’t ‘properly’ get married without them so we decided to go ahead with our day as originally planned just minus the legalities. We are going to ‘officially’ tie the knot when we can finally all be together. Although this was a very tough situation to go through we had such a fabulous day none the less!
