Millie + Ned by Benny Wylde

We were re-introduced at the footy club Ned plays for 6 years ago and we immediately hit it off, and the rest is history!

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

MK – I am a nurse, and Ned is a police officer; we both work shift work, so we try to make the most of our time together when our days off line up. We love to drink coffee before 12 and beers after 12, we love walking our dog Stanley down the beach and cooking delish dinners on weeknights.  We are best friends, and even mundane tasks like food shopping or cleaning the house are always fun.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

MK Ned and I actually went to school together, although I was a few years older and knew his older sister better than I knew him during our time at school. We were re-introduced at the footy club Ned plays for 6 years ago and we immediately hit it off, and the rest is history! We have travelled to many places all over the world and lived in Port Lincoln for 2 and a half years, which only strengthened our relationship and our wedding guests list!

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

MK The proposal happened in the same spot we would marry 12 months later. A place we go often and will continue to go. A regular weekend away at our favourite place began with wine at Hither and Yon and ended with pizza at Russell’s pizza with family and a brand new rock.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

MK – We wanted a New Year’s party first and a wedding second. The venue is my dad’s property which we were so fortunate to be able to use, we had no end time which for new year’s was a huge positive! The property was close to Adelaide and had an amazing view, which we wanted to utilise. Tradition wasn’t important to us, we love a good time with good food and loud music, which were out priority for the day. We loved the idea of a New Year’s party when most people are on holiday and want an excuse to let loose for a few days. We wanted a festival vibe, so we had glamping tents so people could stay and camping options available. Recovery the next day for us was just as exciting and important as the wedding day itself, as we knew this would be when we could let our hair down and really catch up with everyone.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

MK – Our big splurge was the Hampton-style tent! My vision never had a plain white marquee in it, I wanted the 3 peaked tent with flags on top, full festival vibe, with the view in the background. Coming up the driveway with the glamping tents on one side and the Hampton tent on the other was exactly the vision I had for our day!

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

MK – As soon as we arrived in Kangarra to set up a few days out and saw the tents up and my vision coming to life, there was nothing that could have stressed me out, as I knew there was nothing that could ruin our day. I realised a few weeks out that there were going to be things that were out of my control, so I went into the day with the mindset that I would embrace everything, and I knew if we were having the best day, our guests would, too. There was nothing that could have stressed me out, I was just so excited!

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

MK- I did not have a vision for my wedding dress, I never really loved anything I had seen, so I thought creating a dress would be the best option for me. Wanted something very simple that would be timeless, so a strapless silk number was the go! I added the necktie veil as something a bit unique and to tie the the whole outfit together. ARAE Experience made the whole process so easy! I wanted my shoes to stand out, so I picked some blue point heels! I knew I wanted to change into a reception outfits before I even got my dress, I wanted to be able to dance comfortably all night so changed into pants and a disco ball crop!
