Nora + Noah by Kayla Schmah

Nora is the Creative Director at Scribe Winery. Noah is a writer, film enthusiast, of founder of TheRacketsf.com

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
Their story had an unassuming start, thanks in part to the gentle matchmaking efforts of Sarah Kleinman, who believed Noah and Nora might be a good match. It all began with an email exchange triggered by Noah’s newsletter. Nora, deeply moved by a piece of art Noah had shared, decided to reach out. This connection led to their first date – a screening of “Call Me By Your Name” on a chilly March evening.

Noah, nervously navigating the unfamiliar waters of dating, bought popcorn and pondered the unspoken rules of courtship, while Nora arrived fashionably late, initially unaware that it was a date. During the movie, she deftly produced wine from her purse, a gesture that made Noah smile and think, “My kind of lady.” As time passed, Nora eventually realized it was a date, and from there, their relationship blossomed, filled with more movies, glasses of wine, dog walks, and late-night conversations on balconies and stoops. In simple terms, their journey began with Sarah’s matchmaking, followed by an email exchange, an unexpected movie date, and grew into a beautiful connection marked by shared moments and cherished conversations.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
Noah gave me three drawers in his closet. I moved in shortly after and we lived in an apartment in Bernal Heights. Then there was COVID. And though no one can say that a year of anxiety and grief and lockdown and all it brought with it was anything close to a positive experience, the year spent living nearly every moment together was, well, to say it plainly, two people couldn’t have been happier to be trapped in a small apartment together, dealing with the stress and the fear, together.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
On Christmas Eve of 2020, Noah–again, nervous to the point of losing his lunch–got down one knee in front of their Christmas tree and asked Nora–again, wearing silver–if she’d marry him.

As you might’ve guessed by now, she said yes.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
We are both creatives and dreamers and wanted to create a unique and memorable wedding weekend experience for our family and friends.

Noah, a writer and film enthusiast, took Nora, the Creative Director at Scribe Winery, on a first date to see “Call Me By Your Name”. We referenced this beloved movie (set in the Italian countryside) and the quirky colour palettes of Wes Anderson films for our wine country wedding design and decor.

We designed the entire look and feel of our wedding day ourselves. I designed and illustrated the invitations myself. Together Noah and I made the favors (little envelopes filled with California poppy seeds!) We created our very own batched Paloma Cocktail, which was garnished day-of with a flower.
