NYBFW Milla Nova

A celestial couture awakening

There is a distinct sense of theatre and quiet wonder surrounding Stella, the Spring 2027 couture collection from Milla Nova. The Ukrainian bridal house is known for its global reach and sculptural approach to modern romance. Presented in New York alongside the opening of the brand’s first flagship boutique, the collection unfolds like a study in celestial form and contemporary art. Here, the bride is positioned not simply as a subject, but as the radiant axis of her own universe.

Drawing inspiration from the wire sculptures of Alexander Calder and Ruth Asawa, Stella explores the idea of space as something tangible and shaped. The gowns appear to draw in air around them, forming delicate geometries of light and structure. Each piece is named after a celestial body, reinforcing the sense that the wearer becomes part of a larger cosmic narrative. Meanwhile, guests are cast in the role of stargazers observing from orbit. It is an approach that feels both poetic and precise, grounded in Milla Nova’s 20-year legacy of craftsmanship and evolving design language.

At the heart of the collection is a refined interplay between construction and embellishment. Bespoke handcrafted hardware and intricate embroidery are treated as “cosmic fragments”, scattering a signature shimmer across the silhouettes. The star from the Milla Nova logo is introduced as a central motif for the first time, anchoring the collection with a subtle yet intentional symbolism.

While ivory tones form the foundation of Stella, the palette expands into deeper territory with the introduction of obsidian black gowns. This shift feels less like a departure and more like an extension, opening the collection into the realm of eveningwear while retaining its couture bridal sensibility. Among the standouts are two black gowns that sit confidently within the ivory narrative. One, an off-shoulder fitted silhouette, is defined by its sultry restraint, with the cosmic beadwork emerging more dramatically against the dark surface.

Accessories play an equally important role in shaping the collection’s surreal atmosphere. Ethereal translucent opera gloves, sculptural seashell bags, masks, and handcrafted crystal chokers add layers of theatricality without overwhelming the garments.

The Stella collection was previewed during the opening of Milla Nova’s new flagship store at 597 Broadway in SoHo, a 500 square metre space that extends the brand’s minimalist, light-filled aesthetic first established in its Warsaw flagship. The boutique is designed as an immersive environment where brides can engage with personalised styling and discover limited edition designs, underscoring the brand’s focus on experience as much as product.

For Milla Nova’s head designer, Mira Brevush, the New York opening marks a defining moment in the brand’s trajectory, aligning the debut of the Spring 2027 Stella collection with a new chapter of international presence. Founded in Lviv, the brand now reaches brides in over 60 countries. This latest presentation situates its couture vision firmly within a global conversation, one that balances intimacy, artistry, and architectural precision.
