When the time came for us to start looking for our first home together, we knew we would share the rest of our lives with each other.
Five years later, we are still in our first home with our darling dog Dolly.Â
Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
We (Olivia & John) live in Adelaide and have been together for 11 years. We are actually quite the opposite in what we love to do – John is a big sportsman who enjoys days at the beach. Whereas Olivia is a homebody who is a sucker for binging on reality tv (so does John but doesn’t like to admit it!)
How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We met 11 years ago at an Adelaide bar. We met through friends and hit it off instantly sharing the same taste in music. I found John to be someone that made me laugh, warm, and easy to chat with. I (John) thought Olivia was fun, and quirky and loved that she enjoyed heavy metal music.
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
Our favourite summer outing we do together is going to the Moonlight Cinema. So John had rearranged our backyard to look similar with blankets, candles, and food with a huge projector displaying photos of us over the last 10 years and Amy Winehouse playing. The very last slide was asking to marry him!
What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
The overall styling of our wedding and everything that was involved to make it happen – I (Olivia) had a clear vision and worked with the amazing stylist Kelly from Found Collective to make it all happen. Food and the music were also super important to us! These two things especially made the night more enjoyable for our friends and family.
Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
Fortunately, we didn’t feel super stressed on the actual wedding day, we had so much help and support we knew everything would be taken care of. One thing we did stress about leading up was the seating arrangement as we wanted all our guests to be comfortable and enjoy the night. On the night, sitting at our table, facing our friends and family we realised we didn’t need all that stress on ourselves as we could see everyone was having a great night.
