Peta + Angus by Fabrizio Viganὁ

Very early on we realised we are very aligned in most things, everything between us felt so natural and it was so easy to have fun. We’ve not stopped exploring, having fun and growing as a couple – it’s always felt super right & neither of us could imagine doing life without the other.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

We live in Auckland, New Zealand and have been together for almost 10 years. We both work in design and have interests in all things creative. We’re always working towards our next project and love to keep busy with all sorts of different adventures.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We both studied Architecture together, although, in the same classes, we only knew each other in passing. It would take a Tinder match & eventually running into one another at Rhythm and Vine to get the courage to talk to one another. Angus is extremely charismatic, whereas I am more reserved. He is everything I wish I was in a person, id say we’re both the calm to each other’s storms.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
I (Peta) had been whisked away to the lake mid-week, with Angus organising leave from my work for me which peeped some suspicions. On the day of the proposal we travelled by boat around Lake Taupo, finally mooring up in Te Papa Bay for something to eat –  We went ashore to the flat rock where he got down on one knee. I’ll never forget the feeling of realising what was happening – mixed with the adrenaline and excitement of the moment. We celebrated on the rock with champagne when the rain started to roll in,  I hurriedly started packing up the remainder of the picnic but  – in total James’s bond style, a helicopter landed on the small rock next to us ready to again whisk me away.
We were taken to a lodge for the weekend, just the two of us where we lapped up all the newly engaged bliss.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

We had both dreamt of getting married in Italy and always thought we would elope there on the way home from our OE, which unfortunately never happened thanks to the pandemic.
When the world started opening again we jumped at the chance to travel – and what better excuse than a wedding? We fell in love with the venue, Villa Regina Teodolinda, as it had a lot of traditional Italian charm as well as incredible vista’s out over the lake. For that reason, we wanted to keep the décor and florals super simple and understated to not distract from the beautiful setting we were in.
We focused on muted tones that would complement the orange and red villa and candles and fairy lights to set a romantic atmosphere.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?
Angus’ mother lent me the veil she wore on her wedding day, which was also worn by Angus’ sister too. It felt special to incorporate something from his side of the family as the garments typically revolve around the bride’s side. I hand embroidered the guests’ names on their napkins in lieu of place cards in the lead-up to the wedding – the day before I panicked thinking I had forgotten something blue so embroidered a blue PB (My new initials) into the underside of my dress.
