A real-life Pinterest wedding designed to bring the defining 2026 trends vividly to life.
Our editor, Greta, was invited to attend Australasia’s first presentation of the 2026 Pinterest Wedding Trends Report, held at Pinterest’s Sydney headquarters. It was an immersive and considered unveiling, offering not only a reflection on the key ideas shaping weddings in 2026 but also a forward-looking perspective on what is set to define the year ahead.
What set the event apart was the way these trends were brought to life. Pinterest transformed its headquarters into a series of layered, sensory environments, each moment thoughtfully designed to reflect the evolving language of modern weddings. It felt less like a presentation and more like stepping inside a living editorial, where colour, texture and atmosphere worked together to tell a cohesive story.
At the heart of the experience was something entirely unexpected. Rather than simply showcasing inspiration, Pinterest hosted a real, legally binding wedding for couple Naila and Lachlan. Executed with remarkable care, every detail felt thoughtfully considered, and nothing was overlooked. It was a celebration that captured both the intimacy and individuality of the couple and modern weddings.
There were many beautiful moments throughout the evening, but perhaps the most memorable was the arrival of their beloved dog, Captain, who delivered the rings. It was a detail that brought a genuine sense of warmth and authenticity to the celebration, grounding the experience in something deeply personal and heartfelt.
We’ll admit, we were initially a little apprehensive about what to expect with a real wedding forming part of the event. It could easily have felt staged or secondary to the broader presentation. Instead, it was executed with an incredible level of care and sensitivity, in a way that felt genuinely authentic to the couple and deeply considered in every detail. Rather than becoming a spectacle, the wedding brought an emotional depth and intimacy to the experience that was both unexpected and incredibly moving. Quite simply, it was beautiful.
Naila and Lachlan have a larger destination wedding planned later this year in Spain, and as many Australian-based destination couples do, they legally wed in Australia before the destination wedding in Europe, as it can be difficult to legally wed in countries in Europe if you are not a citizen.

There is a quiet shift unfolding in the way we gather to celebrate love. It is less about spectacle, more about intention. Less about expectation, more about expression. Pinterest’s Wedding Trends Report for 2026 captures this moment with clarity, revealing a generation of couples who are not simply planning weddings but reshaping them entirely.
Insights from GWI suggest that couples are increasingly drawn to celebrations that reflect who they are, rather than what is expected of them. That instinct is echoed on Pinterest, where more than 7 billion wedding-related searches and 16.7 billion saved ideas over the past year point to a clear shift towards weddings that feel expressive, atmospheric, and entirely self-defined.
Across searches and saved images, a new language of celebration is emerging. It feels tactile, atmospheric, and deeply personal. Traditions are not discarded, but softened, reworked, and reimagined through a more individual lens. The result is a wedding landscape that feels expansive rather than prescribed.
The ceremony also spoke to a broader shift we are seeing among destination couples. With Nala and Lachlan planning to celebrate later this year in Spain, their Sydney ceremony reflected a practical reality many couples face. Legal marriages are often completed at home before travelling, allowing the destination wedding itself to become a more expressive, experiential celebration.
It was a powerful reminder that today’s weddings are no longer confined to a single moment or place. They are layered, intentional and deeply personal, shaped as much by logistics as they are by creativity. Pinterest’s presentation captured this evolution with clarity and imagination, offering a compelling glimpse into what lies ahead.

Inspiration Brought to Life: A Sydney Wedding by Pinterest
As mentioned above, to mark the release of the report, the platform brought its vision into the physical world with its first live and legal wedding in Australasia. Held at its Sydney headquarters, the space was transformed into an immersive reflection of the trends themselves.
At the centre of it were Naïla and Lachlan, joined by their beloved dog Captain, exchanging vows in front of family and friends (with a small bunch of selected Australasian media and Influencers also in attendance). Around them, each detail echoed the themes shaping 2026. A gown by Grace Loves Lace moved with ease, tailoring by MJ Bale felt refined yet relaxed, and guests dressed by Petal & Pup added to the sense of cohesion. Beauty looks by MECCA and stationery by Canva completed the picture, each element contributing to a setting that felt both curated and sincere.
Yet what resonated most was not the styling, but the intention behind it. The sense that this was not a performance, but a reflection of the couple and something real.

As the report makes clear, the future of weddings lies not in following a formula, but in creating something that feels unmistakably your own. And in Sydney, for a moment, that future felt entirely within reach. See more of the wedding on Pinterest here.
