Rachel + Garrett by Amanda Noel

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Garrett and I (Rachel) spend a majority of our time traveling; he plays professional baseball, so we’re on the road about 3-4 times per month. We love exploring new cities and finding our favourite little coffee shops and cafes. When we’re home, we love to play with our dog, read, go on walks, hangout in the backyard, paint, and go on date nights.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We first met in college and it was love at first sight for the both of us. We remained friends for a while, then a few months later we decided to start dating. We’re both SUPER quiet and reserved so it took a little bit for one of us to make the first move, but here we are!

G: I thought that she was WAY cooler than she let on, and she was super mysterious – I was always wanting to know more about her. She’s so beautiful, I couldn’t take my eyes off of her every time I saw her.

R: He was the most handsome man I had ever seen in my life. I had first seen him in a large crowd of people, and it was like the rest of the world had completely blurred and he was the ONLY thing I could focus on. Of course, I went up and introduced myself. The rest is history.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

R: We realised we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together when I had moved across the country by myself for a new job. The distance had drawn us so much closer and we had truly accepted ALL parts of each other. It was a feeling that if we hadn’t decided to spend the rest of our lives with each other, we’d probably choose to spend it alone. The job didn’t last long.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

R: Garrett proposed in the backyard of our first apartment together. He printed out pictures, lit candles, and scattered roses. He got down on one knee and poured his heart out; it was super romantic.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

R: We knew we had wanted a small, outdoor wedding under the stars with close friends and family. Our desert venue was breathtaking and fit our vision perfectly. I wanted the night to feel super relaxed and low-key, while still romantic. We wanted an organic, minimal style to everything which is exactly what we got. Every detail was so perfect.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

R: My main gown was by Enzoani. It was fitted, beaded, and fit so comfortably. By the end of the ceremony, the train of my dress had completely taken in all of the dirt, shrubs, and cacti from the landscape. It’s still hanging in my closet like that, I’m not sure what to do with it yet. For the reception, I changed into a Shona Joy slip dress from Nordstrom.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

R: There were two things that were a MUST HAVE. We had our hearts set on our photographer, so there was no budget to book her. Our photos are literally dreamy and amazing and I still look at them at least once a day. Also, our wedding coordinator was my saving grace. She took care of everything and she was the only reason the day went so smoothly.
