I was born and raised in California. I got my dream job last year working at an advertising agency as a writer. It gives me the chance to be creative, have fun, and be funny, all while working. Alex was born and raised in the South and is a certified teacher — kindergarten through to sixth grade.

Alex and I both love to be active. Sometimes that means exploring new beaches by our house, or running around with our dog or taking road trips to new places. We love nature, mountains, forests and deserts. Our siblings are both wedding photographers who became friends at a photography field trip in Cambodia. They decided that Alex and I would make the perfect pair, so they made plans to set us up — and it worked! We met and realised that there was something pretty special between us. But we had one problem to overcome: Alex lived in Texas and I lived in California. Most of our two years of dating was long distance. This meant countless hours of Facetime calls and round-the-clock texting. We managed to fly back and forth to see each other every month or so, but it was still one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to go through. It is a tribute to our love that we made it through two years of long distance and are now married and finally living together in the same city. We wanted a simple wedding. We only had family and a few close friends, 35 or so people. We picked out a special spot near a rock formation in Joshua Tree and decided this was where we would get married. There were no nerves or worry. We just knew everything would be perfect, and if something were to go wrong (which nothing did) we wouldn’t have really cared, because we were just excited to be getting married. We had our ‘first look’ portraits at the base of some mountains in Palm Springs, then drove out to Joshua Tree to the ceremony spot. It was a gorgeous day and we were in a stunning location. The ceremony was a highlight: we had no chairs, so everyone just gathered around us, and it was so intimate and warm. Tears were shed and it just felt so beautiful getting married out in the open. We had no planned timeline, no list of things to get through. We let the night lead us.
