Kyla & Ian by Sirena Photography

It’s not about a specific moment; rather, it’s the accumulation of countless interactions and conversations that built the strong bond between us.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Ian and Kyla – a dynamic duo blending creativity and strategic vision. Ian is the maestro of creativity who transforms business aspirations into reality through his branding and marketing agency. Meanwhile, Kyla, with a keen sense for people and numbers, passionately drives growth in her business development role, forging impactful connections.

Beyond the hustle, we’re just two souls saying, “Why not?” to life’s adventures. Whether it’s exploring new places or finding joy in everyday wonders, Ian and Kyla are a blend of passion, purpose, and a whole bout of spontaneity.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We crossed paths at a three-month-long part-time modelling gig, just casual colleagues in multiple group settings. Months rolled by before our friendship started to bud. Funny enough, there was no spark at first; we were just two individuals enjoying common interests like exploring interesting places, watching musicals, having suppers, gaming at Internet cafes, and belting out tunes at karaoke with other friends.

Ian, with his knack for humour, struck Kyla as a fun dude to be around. Meanwhile, Kyla, with her distinctive blonde locks, initially earned the playful label of “Ah Lian” (young punk) from Ian. Little did we know, beneath those surface impressions, a connection was quietly brewing, and the rest, as they say, is their history.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

It’s not about a specific moment; rather, it’s the accumulation of countless interactions and conversations that built the strong bond between us. We’ve made deliberate choices to navigate life together, and as we approach nearly 14 years together, it’s clear that our connection is something enduring and special.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Ian orchestrated a surprise overseas proposal during Kyla’s solo trip to Europe, making it extra special. With a flair for theatrics, he planned the entire event to happen in Paris, secretly coordinating with Kyla’s friends and sister for over a month. A day before the proposal, Ian, in disguise as a bearded man with curly hair, stalked Kyla and her sister around Paris undetected, while having his photographer take pictures of him with Kyla in the background. On the proposal morning, braving the cold in a thrifted fur winter coat, velvet skirt, blonde wig, black heels, sunglasses, and a walking stick, Ian waited at Trocadero. Disguised as an old lady, he knelt on one knee to pop the question when Kyla arrived with her sister. The element of creativity and effort made it a truly unforgettable moment.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your pre-wedding shoot…

Featuring a traditional Kimono worn at Meiji Shrine to the vibrant energy of Shibuya Crossing. Which showcased Japan’s timeless and contemporary wedding scenes.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

Despite being told it wasn’t necessary, Ian was happy to splurge on a brilliant diamond ring for Kyla. He envisioned it as a symbol of her grace and elegance, wanting her to have a timeless piece that she could proudly adorn on various occasions.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

Wearing a full kimono has always been on their bucket list, and they were willing to travel to Japan to take pre-wedding photos.
