Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…
Our little family includes: Steph, Eric, our pup, Tank Bus and the latest addition is Baby Archie born in December.
Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…
Eric and I decided to elope because we wanted a fuss-free/unforgettable wedding day that was filled with adventure. We both come from big families (he is 1 of 5 and I am 1 of 7) and they were 100% on board with our decision
We started our wedding day by opening letters that our family and friends had written and sent with us. It was such a special way to kick off our big day and made us feel so supported and loved even though we were thousands of miles from home. Before we started getting ready, Eric and I walked the around the hotel collecting wild flowers for my bouquet and spent time taking in the amazing landscape.
About an hour before our ceremony we started getting ready and just took our time. It was just the two of us in our cozy little hotel room with 90s pop playing in the background. I think we spent a good 20 minutes watching YouTube videos on how to tie a bowtie…but as you can see…we never quite figured it out, haha!!
We got married in an itty bitty black church just a few hundred yards from our hotel. The walk from the hotel to the church had the most breath-taking views that our photographer captured SO well!
The best part of the ceremony was reading our vows to each other. We cried, laughed, and cried some more. There was just so much love in that tiny church.
After a jaw-dropping dinner at Hotel Budir we spent the rest of the night exploring Iceland with our photographer, Cole. We went from a black sand beach, to a glacier, to jet-black cliffs, and everything in between. Oh, and drank a few beers along the way. Having Cole there was like having the world’s best tour-guide that happened to come equipped with a Fuji camera and a hell-of-a-talent for making everything feel effortless.
While eloping might not be for everyone, we couldn’t have chosen a better way to say “I do”.
Tell us about your main outfits:
I wore two dresses that I absolutely LOVED. One for the ceremony (Eugenia Couture) and one that I didn’t mind getting a bit dirty during our picture-taking adventure (Laundry by Shelli Segal from Rent the Runway). Eric wore a suit by Reiss and Shoes from Cole Haan.
Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?
If eloping is something you’re interested in, DO IT! It may seem overwhelming to put your trust in people 1,000 miles from home, but I promise you it’s worth it. My suggestion would be to reach out to someone (like Cole from Nordica Photography) who have done destination elopements before. They are full of advice and happy to help!
