We fell in love pretty quickly two years ago and our bond has grown stronger during our travels together. We’ve chased daylight in Iceland, island-hopped in the Maldives and Sri Lanka, run around India, hiked through Patagonia, and road tripped through national parks, connecting over a love of adventure and willingness to try new things. It has been an incredible journey.
Instead of a traditional wedding, we wanted something more informal, where we could spend some quality time with the people we love most. We wanted our wedding to feel relaxed and intimate. We opted for a weekend in a beautiful setting — an old Conservation Corps camp in the middle of a national forest in Virginia. Our favourite part of the wedding was sharing our vows. We took a weekend trip to Nicaragua a couple of weeks before our wedding and worked on them together. We wanted our vows to tell a story about our relationship and what we wanted our life to be like together. Relationships take time, work, a lot of love and patience, and that’s really important to us. We didn’t have any vendors at the wedding, we just brought things we had collected over the years to decorate the venue. Our friends and family made everything possible, making sure everyone was fed with amazing pot-luck meals, setting up, decorating, building an incredible wedding arch out of materials in the forest, helping us make our wedding bands, and doing the clean up afterwards. Everyone helped out and it really made our wedding weekend special. We weren’t sure we would have a photographer, but when we saw India’s pictures, we knew we had to work with her. She was already booked up but she made it work and made us feel comfortable, capturing some really amazing moments. We continue to grow as individuals and as a couple, learning from each other and being better and stronger together. It’s the deepest, most trusting and committed friendship.
