We both love colour, and there was a warm pastel palette across the wedding with soft string lighting in the evening.
Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
We have been together for 4.5 years and live in the Southwest corner of London. We both work in investment management, but when we are not working, we love eating good food with good friends and travelling to see family who are spread all over the globe.
How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We were introduced by two of our best friends in the summer of 2020, who are now also married. The four of us met for rooftop cocktails and dinner in Peckham. Our friends weren’t fully transparent that it was a set up – but it worked a treat. We both love activities, and early dates included pottery classes, go-karting, and sushi making.
Tell us about the vision you had for the mood and style of your wedding. (theme, key styling elements, florals, colour palettes etc.).
Though guests travelled from far and wide to join us in Italy, we wanted the event to feel homely and welcoming, and guests were encouraged to intermingle amongst themselves. The venue at La Pescaia is already stunning, so we didn’t want to take away from the natural rustic Tuscan feel of the property. We had ombre flowers across the table, with wooden and ceramic accents all set against the nature of the front gardens. We both love colour, and there was a warm pastel palette across the wedding with soft string lighting in the evening.
What styling and visual elements worked best for you? (could be things, the florals, particular hire products or your marquee etc., something the stylist created or simply just the scenic beauty of your location or the existing design of your venue).
We adored the flowers on the day, our florist Beatrice and her team did such a wonderful job. We had specifically asked for Dahlias, and Beatrice sourced these from her own collection.
What did you enjoy most about the planning process and do you have any tips for couples starting their wedding planning journey?
Finding and securing the venue was pivotal – and all the credit goes to Kim for finding La Pescaia. We were very glad that we provisionally booked all of the guest’s accommodation near the venue soon after, as this significantly reduced stress around accommodation for guests closer to the time. Flying to Florence for our food tasting was a really great experience for us; it’s hard to go wrong with Tuscan food or wine.
Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?
Rebecca had two dresses, one from Chosen by Kyha for the ceremony and reception and a bejewelled dress from Alena Leena for dinner and dancing. Kim’s suit was bespoke, and he had a personalized E Marinella tie personalized with our wedding date.
What was one, or two elements that were most important to you both that you were happy to spend a little more on? (food, photography, florals, the venue, your outfits?).
The music and entertainment were really important to us both. On a welcome night, we had Afla Sackey & Afrik Bawantu, a high-line afro-funk band, perform after the welcome dinner. For our reception, we had a Rumba Gipsy band perform Gypsy King classics which had our guests dancing through the afternoon. Kim organized tickets to see the Gypsy Kings play in London early in our relationship – so it was very special for us both. MK & Misters were our chosen band for after dinner, and we chose a lot of disco classics to be played. Finally, DJ Zano took the party through to the morning whilst also providing the music for our pool party the next day.
Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
On our wedding day, England was playing against Switzerland in the quarterfinals of the Euros during our dinner. Kim is half Swiss, so we had both sides of supporters on the big day. The game went to penalties about 30 seconds after Rebecca’s speech finished – and phones came out all along the table to watch the conclusion. It was actually a very memorable and fun moment as the final penalty was taken and half the table erupted in celebrations…for the English fans, at least!
