Our vibe was definitely less is more.
Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
We met in Tasmania and dated for a year and a half before Andrew popped the question. We now have a house together and the sweetest little pup, Adso. We both have corporate jobs (banking and environmental management) that we love. In our spare time we hang out with our dog, embark on home improvement projects, play our Xbox (which was a wedding present) and work out at the gym.
How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We met on a dating app (Hinge) – as you do. My first impression of Andrew was that he knows how to hold a conversation and the difference between their, there, and they’re. Andrew thought I was cute, funny, and smart.
When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
I’m not sure if this was a moment in time or if it was a growing feeling. We were a bit older when we met (28 and 30), so we had a good idea of what we didn’t want, how relationships go, and what we value in a partner. As tacky as this sounds, I also think it’s a bit of being in the right place at the right time (not location specifically, but where we were in the journey that is life).
Tell us about the vision you had for the mood and style of your wedding. (theme, key styling elements, florals, colour palettes etc.).
The mood for our wedding (which I’m not sure we achieved) was fun and relaxed. We wanted our guests to enjoy our day and celebrate it with us and not be asked to do jobs. In terms of styling, our vibe was definitely less is more. We picked a location that does most of the talking for you, and that needed minimal dressing to make it seem like a wedding.
During our bridal session at The Woodbridge, Tasmania, with Courteney Lee Photography, the vision was a dreamy bridal session set at the enchanting Woodbridge Tasmania, where nature’s beauty meets timeless elegance. With silhouettes bathed in sog, golden morning light – holding a delicate white parasol as we strolled through the estate’s lush gardens. The serene, historic atmosphere of the estate, with its rustic charm and sweeping river views – created the perfect romantic backdrop. The bridal session was all about understated elegance, with sog, ethereal tomes that capture our love. What styling and visual elements worked best for you? (could be things, the florals, particular hire products or your marquee etc., something the stylist created or simply just the scenic beauty of your location or the existing design of your venue).
For our bridal shoot, the combination of the venue’s charm and natural lighting came together effortlessly, creating a truly romantic and graceful setting. The estate’s lush gardens played an important role and complemented the understated elegance of using a simple white parasol for styling. At this historical venue, we were able to highlight the unique features that made the location truly special. The beautiful windows, with their intricate frames, provided a perfect opportunity to frame some stunning shots, allowing sog, natural light to spill in and create a dreamy, almost ethereal atmosphere.
What did you enjoy most about the planning process and do you have any tips for couples starting their wedding planning journey?
We have both been diagnosed with ADHD, so we had to make our planning process fun for both of us. We turned them into scheduled ‘date nights’, where we’d have some wine, discuss ideas, share what we’ve learnt in our individual research sessions, etc.
Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?
Bride’s outfit: I tried on EVERY style there was because what I really wanted (long sleeve, boat neckline) looked almost comical on me. I went for comfort in the end. I wanted a dress I didn’t have to wear shapewear in because I knew it would be a long day. I also wanted a dress I didn’t have to adjust all the Xme. Unfortunately, (or fortunately?) I dropped a little bit of weight just before and ended up having to pull the top up #straplessstruggles.
Groom outfit: mostly depended on whether it matched the colour palette of the bridesmaid’s outfits.
What was one, or two elements that were most important to you both that you were happy to spend a little more on? (food, photography, florals, the venue, your outfits?).
We were both happy to spend more on photography and videography. Looking back, the whole day went pretty quickly, so it’s nice to have those moments captured.
Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
Probably not quite ready to laugh about it, but on the morning of the wedding, the fire sprinkler in the room we were staying in went off, and the dress was covered in black muddy water. It did end up being dry-cleaned, and everything still went ahead; we were only 15 minutes late. Looking back, I’d have gotten married wearing a bathrobe if it meant getting married to Andrew.
A short while after, an opportunity came up with Courteney Lee Photography to re-do the bridal photos at The Woodbridge, Tasmania, which we were SO thankful for.
