Rebecca + Sam by Haute Weddings

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Rebecca- Sam and I are born and raised in Auckland. I am a flight Attendant and Sam is an Electrician with his own business, some would say we are active relaxers. We both love to get away when we get the chance, anywhere near the beach is our happy place.

Sam loves a project and enjoys doing up our 1920s villa. We love to celebrate life with good food and with friends and family near. We cannot wait to expand our family one day in the near future but right now its just two and Alfie, our 3 year old Miniature Schnauzer.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We first met at a mutual friends BBQ when I saw Sam I thought he was very good looking, I was far to shy to go up and talk to him and Sam was obviously to shy also as he was giving me ‘the eyes’ from across the room. Later that evening I got a friend request on Facebook. A few months later we found ourselves at the same club in Auckland, we danced the night away and the rest is history!

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

I knew very early on, I fell in love with Sam’s calmness and his ability to keep me grounded.  Sam – I knew when I started my business. Rebecca is the most caring person I know and is someone who always challenges me. I am the best version of myself when I am with her.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

On September 23rd 2020 we away glamping for my 25th birthday at Castaways. It was perfect, I had never been glamping before so I was so excited! We had just got back from a big walk and I went inside after being a bit wind swept, I brushed my hair and Sam yelled out “I have one more surprise for you” and as I turned around and walked outside Sam was on one knee!! I screamed and cried and honestly I couldn’t even tell you what he said. My knees were shaking and as I dropped to the ground he asked me to marry him! It was so incredible, a moment I had longed for. We popped the champagne and chatted the night away, with no service it was nice to soak in such a special time just us two.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

Ever since I was 11 I had my wedding planned out so planning it and making the day come to life was relativity easy for me. The theme was a classical white wedding with a twist of modern, chic and timeless. We didn’t want to over do it in terms of decorating as the venue is so beautiful on its own and we wanted our guests to take in the scenery around. After a lot of research online I found our photographers, I loved the look that they shot. Their website says it all! I wanted that wow factor with our photos and the sunglasses were a very last minute thing but I am so glad we did it! Sam loved the idea of a tuxedo, but a lot of persuading went into getting the boys to wear bow ties (I had a vision- couldn’t get it out of my head) and it did bring out the formal side.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

If I had to choose one thing it would be our photographers and a videographer. Photos are something you have for the rest of your life and having a video that we can watch and relive the moments is incredible. Highly recommend!

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

It was quite windy at the time of our ceremony and being on top of a hill there was a last minute change of what side Sam and I stood on as I didn’t want my hair going in my face. In the middle of the ceremony my veil was tugging at my hair and blowing around later coming off and one of my bridesmaids had to catch it! It did make for a good photo however I wish I just took it off!

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

I had visited a few bridal stores with my Mum and 2 bridesmaids and only tried on tight fitting dresses but just wasn’t feeling like I had found the one. After visiting Trish Peng I had narrowed it down to a dress that I thought was “the one”. I had a dream a couple of nights later about my wedding dress, it was totally different to all the ones I had tried on, I took this as a sign and emailed Trish back to try on a different style. This time only taking mum with me I tried on my dress! It brought tears to my eyes, a feeling I hadn’t felt with all the others. I then decided change the whole top of the dress adding a sweetheart style and the extra material on top, I then changed the back and added the split. Trish Peng was amazing to work with and made all my dreams come true. It was extra special as my Bridesmaids hadn’t seen it, making for an awesome first look experience with them! Trying to find the perfect bridesmaid dresses was very difficult, In lockdown I had multiple dresses sent to my house that just didn’t make the cut and after hours of scrolling I found the Bec and Bridge dress! I had them saved on my Instagram since 2018, meant to be. For Sam he always had a Tuxedo in mind, he got his tailored made from working style such a seamless process!
