Rebecca + Thomas by Blancorazon Wedding

I was never one for big weddings so I knew pretty early on that I wanted something small that just focused on the two of us. We had talked about taking a trip to Spain before the pandemic hit and one day walking to breakfast we came up with the idea of finally taking that trip and eloping while we were there!

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
Rebecca – I’m a trader at an investment management firm in the United States and Tom is in real estate. We both have demanding jobs so we spend a lot of our downtime with our dog at home, hosting friends for dinners, spending time with family, traveling, and trying great food and cocktails – whether at home or at an amazing restaurant.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We met through my cousin who went to law school with Tom. There was a first encounter at a 4th of July party but it wasn’t until a couple months later that we hit it off on Tom’s last night living in Baltimore as he graduated law school and was moving to a different city! We chatted all night in a loud bar with live music. We both were drawn to each other and had so much fun talking all night we couldn’t believe it was the last night we would live in the same city. We had our first real date the next weekend and the rest is history.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
Tom proposed in our home that we had just purchased together and finally had the keys. The house was still empty as we only moved some small things to the kitchen but he spent the day setting up candles and flowers to surprise me as I walked into the front door. He caught me off guard by telling me we would just have dinner in our new home for the first time and to meet him there. I walked in with our dog and was ready to eat and he is about to get down on one knee as our dog is running around like crazy through candles and flowers. It was so beautiful and he spent so much time making every detail perfect – including bottles of champagne and a steak dinner. It was always important to us to have the moment to ourselves so we kept the news to ourselves for a bit to just quietly celebrate together.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
I was never one for big weddings so I knew pretty early on that I wanted something small that just focused on the two of us. We had talked about taking a trip to Spain before the pandemic hit and one day walking to breakfast we came up with the idea of finally taking that trip and eloping while we were there! I knew that I wanted our day to be fun and laid back with a celebration around the city after we said our vows. Our photographer and planner totally got my vision and executed it perfectly.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
There were two mishaps! Myself, Tom, our photographer, our officiant, and my makeup artist all piled into an uber to go from the hotel to Plaza de Espana for sunrise photos and we got all the way there to the gates and I realized I forgot my bouquet! Luckily, Stefania, our officiant, got the uber driver to take her back to our hotel to grab the flowers and drive back to meet us.

I had rented a vintage convertible car for photos and a drive around the city as I am a huge vintage car lover and wanted to pay a little tribute to that in our photos. Leading up to the time we were supposed to meet the car, we find out the car broke down on the way to meet us! Patrizia tried everything to get me and that car together but it didn’t work out. I was disappointed but Patrizia tried taking our mind off of it by taking photos around the city, then out of nowhere she stopped a woman on a bicycle and asked her if we could borrow it for photos. It was so much fun and we got some great photos!

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?
I would say my style is classic with a little bit of edge and most wedding dresses did not feel like me. I found my dress browsing online for any white dress that wasn’t long but also had something a little special. As soon as I saw my dress from Alex Perry, I ordered it right away. It sat in my closet as I went to dress appointments and nothing compared to how I felt in that dress. I was drawn to the clean lines and the unexpected cape sleeves. It was giving me modern Grace Kelly vibes and I knew it would be perfect for our Spanish elopement. My heels were from Schutz and I loved how they had just enough sparkle to bring something to the simplicity of my dress.

I changed into a Self Portrait romper that was a blazer style with delicate lace detail on the hem that felt like a good balance of feminine and fun. I knew I wanted to balance that with a fun sneaker. I found my white Nike sneakers online that had a simple pearl detail that made them a little bridal. My pearl clutch was borrowed from a dear friend and was so special to carry around. I switched it out for a little black flower handle purse later that I bought from Zara. I was pretty last minute with my jewellery and borrowed pearl and diamond earrings that were my great grandmother’s to wear with my first dress. While we were in Portugal before flying to Spain, I found a pair of pearl drop earrings in a little boutique that I decided to wear with my second outfit. I considered them my something new!

I envisioned Tom in a navy suit of some sort but wanted him to pick it out as he has great style and a closet full of suits from his lawyer days. We took a day to get a custom fitting and try on some different options and he ended up going with a navy tuxedo jacket that had an art deco diamond pattern that was subtle but classic.
