Rosie + Jonny by Love Of Mine

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

I (Rosie) work in publishing as a PR Manager for an internationally bestselling author. Jonny works for a genomics bio-tech start-up in Cambridge. We have a super simple life and love being with our friends, country walks with our beagle (Daisy), and seeing live music – most of our best memories are at music festivals especially Hurricane Festival in Germany and Glastonbury!

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We met at university in Cambridge ten years ago on a sticky dance floor at one of the cities many clubs.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

We connected pretty early on and I think we’ve always known that what we have together is pretty special. But I’d probably say when Jonny first moved to the small market town I grew up in. He grew up in the Midlands and moving to South England was a pretty big deal for him. Friends are super important to us both and we have a pretty large friendship group from my school days. I think when he slotted straight into that everything really fell into place.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

The proposal was pretty low-key and very us. It was during lockdown and he ordered in an “At Home” meal from Rick Stein. We both love fish and my parents recently retired down in Cornwall. He had the Arctic Monkeys on the record player and we are both big fans of performance poet, John Cooper Clarke. “I Wanna Be Yours” came on and he got down on one knee. After the excited phone calls to family, he had arranged for our friends to have a drink with us on a Zoom call (how 2020/2021!)

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

The vision was always to have a modern twist on a traditional wedding. The florist absolutely nailed the brief, and the stunning Deer Park Country House was the perfect mix of formal yet relaxed.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

The venue was hugely important to us and of course decent food. But I’d probably say the most important bit for us was the live music. We both love classical music and had a String Quartet play Sigur Ros’s Hoppipolla when I walked down the aisle. Jonny was standing at the front with his best man, Tom, by his side – the three of us had a pretty special moment at Hurricane Festival in Germany in the early hours of the morning listening to Sigur Ros perform it live quite early on in our relationship, so it just felt perfect for the moment. The evening ended with the Soul Music Collective playing their soulful tunes – as soon as we booked the date, they were the first people we contacted – we had been at one of our favourite local pubs in Hertfordshire in 2019 and heard them play for the first time. Everyone was up and dancing and having the best time – Jonny turned to me and said if we ever get married we are having this band – we hadn’t ever seriously talked about marriage before that. They kindly travelled down to Devon from Hertfordshire for us and we couldn’t think of a better way to close out our wedding day.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

Our outfits were definitely a splurge too – Jonny and his dad both had bespoke suits made by the Bespoke Tailor and it was definitely worth it. I always dreamt of wearing Halfpenny and knew it was the outfit for me as soon as I put the Blaze Shrug on. It kind of felt meant to be as Halfpenny launched at my local dress shop the week I started properly looking for dresses!
