Sasha + Will by Holii and Ash - Together Journal

Will and I met 13 years ago in my hometown of Albany. He was on summer holidays from university, and I had just returned from travelling in Europe.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Will grew up in the country on his family’s wheat and sheep farm in Nyabing, WA, and went to school and university in Perth before working as a geologist. Currently, he works in finance and runs a family office with his two business partners.

Sasha grew up in Albany on the south coast of WA, both her parents are from the UK and emigrated out to Australia. Sasha’s love for the ocean from an early age has followed in her working life after university, and she now works in Marine Science research.

Sasha is a social butterfly and loves catching up with all her friends, whereas Will is a bit more introverted and enjoys spending his downtime with their Labrador Winnie. We’ve just finished renovating a 100-year-old weatherboard cottage in Middleton Beach, so we both love getting down there whenever we can and enjoying a break.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

Will and I met 13 years ago in my hometown of Albany. He was on summer holidays from university, and I had just returned from travelling in Europe. We met at the infamous Albany nightclub, Will was with some of his mates he played footy within the country, and I was keen for a girls’ night out.

God, it was pretty awkward, Will’s friend Dave pretended that he knew me and introduced Will to me. Will’s first question was asking me how I knew his friend Dave. I didn’t…Will scurried off to the bar after that, and a few minutes later, I went to get a drink, and we both had a laugh about how funny that was. We hit it off instantaneously and exchanged numbers, over the next few weeks & months, we had plenty of beach dates getting to know each other and exploring the beautiful region of the great southern.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

For Will, it was after the first few months, Sash took a little longer 😊 We were both living in Perth, Sasha was at uni, and Will was working away. Will would stay with Sash when he was back in Perth, and love quickly blossomed.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

Yep, after a few false starts due to Covid restrictions cancelling planned holidays, we were finally able to get away to the Northern Territory, where Will proposed to me at Uluru whilst staying at Longitude 131. He made me a cup of tea and proposed on our balcony overlooking Uluru, it was very sweet. First time I’d ever seen Will nervous. His hand was shaking as he gave me my cup of tea, which I thought was strange.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

Sasha: Will wanted a big farm party wedding and as long as there was lamb on the menu. Will also found two old 1950s Chev Bel Airs as wedding cars.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

The Sperry tent, Fervor (food), the wine list, the Oyster bar and, of course, Sash’s dress.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

Yes, it rained! Luckily not during the ceremony but we lost power for 15 minutes at the reception, luckily there were 4 electricians who were guests and they quickly problem solved it. Everyone lit the candles on the table in the meantime, and it actually provided a lovely backdrop some guests thought we planned it!
