Slaton + Maddy by Julieta Rabadan

Slaton & Maddy's simple and elegant wedding photos by Julieta Rabadan.

The vision I had for our wedding was simple, elegant and chic. Something timeless with trendy elements. We accomplished this by focusing on a neutral palette with hints of black and champagne.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
We are high school sweethearts, who tied the knot in March of this year. We are expecting our first baby in January 2024, a baby boy. Slaton is in construction and I’m in real estate and marketing.

Something we love to do is go shopping or even just browse at shops, consignment stores, and thrift stores and see if anything strikes our eyes. Since we just bought a house, we are doing a lot more of that. We enjoy trying new restaurants, grilling with friends or just snuggling on the couch with our two dogs, Cooper and Tex.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We first met in high school – I was a freshman and he was a senior. We started dating the following summer. My initial thought of him was “wow he’s tall” and all the girls had a crush on him since he was the “new kid”. Slaton was a football player and I was a cheerleader, we first came into contact when I was making him a glitter number. It’s a cute little gift we give to the football players before every game to show our support and I was assigned to make Slaton’s. I ended up reaching out to him to ask, “Why does your last name have to be so long?” since it didn’t fit on the glitter number I was trying to make for him. Little did I know, 11 years later that would become my last name.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
My mom had made plans to take family photos at a botanical garden, which almost our whole families made it to. This wasn’t out of the ordinary, since my mom makes a huge deal about family photos every year. We were all taking couples photos and it was mine and Slaton’s turn. The photographer told me to stay put and eventually to turn around, when I then see Slaton down on one knee. I was so surprised and I couldn’t have hoped for a more perfect proposal.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
The vision I had for our wedding was simple, elegant and chic. Something timeless with trendy elements. We accomplished this by focusing on a neutral palette with hints of black and champagne.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
The photographer. These photos we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Having the best person to help bring your special day to life is so important and I believe Juli was able to do that for us. Quality is so important and you get what you pay for. Every time I look back at our photos, I feel like I am there again and it makes me so happy.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
Picking out all of our music for the ceremony and reception to be played last minute. We knew what we wanted but forgot to write it down and give it to the DJ.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?
I only had one outfit, my wedding dress. Something I think was unique was my choice of earrings. They were pearl drop earrings and I picked them because pearl is my husband’s birth stone.
