Tova + Matt by Carla Mitchell

After COVID-19 scuppered our original Scottish wedding at home, we realised we didn’t need the big wedding, we just wanted something unforgettable and a day full of fun to celebrate each other and our life.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We both worked for the same store while studying in 2012. I went down to the Edinburgh store with some colleagues that Matt knew and I kept trying to sneak glances at him. Apparently, he was doing the same and then a week later, I got a cheeky wee add on Facebook.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
A couple of minutes before the bells on 31 Dec 2016, I said I wanted to sit down and when I turned around Matt just said ‘ok, but what about…’ and I realised he was on his knee. I was in shock and silent for a touch too long, then sounded like I was having a panic attack. His entire family who knew what was happening were downstairs trying to listen – which is so embarrassing because I swore a lot when I got my breath back.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
The helicopter!! We’re still pinching ourselves that we got married on the top of a mountain. Our dinner at Amisfield that night was amazing too, we just felt so grateful to be able to enjoy some amazing food while absorbing what just happened.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
Matt had a slippery dash across the snow to grab the whisky which was transported in a plastic water bottle (the blasphemy!) and we had to start the ceremony again.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?
Matt decided to go with his trews instead of the full kilt and I can confirm he made a good choice! My incredibly talented friend Anushka made my top with some left over lace from the skirt when we realised I would need long sleeves being in the snow.
