Born in Brooklyn to academic parents with a passion for antiques, Alexis Bittar showed entrepreneurial flair from an early age, selling flowers from a hand-painted cart at just ten years old. By his teens, he had immersed himself in New York’s vibrant club scene, where a fascination with fashion and design began to take hold.

In the early 1990s, Bittar began carving his now-iconic Lucite jewellery from his apartment. A chance discovery by Dawn Mello of Bergdorf Goodman in 1992 catapulted him into the fashion spotlight, soon leading to international stockists and high-profile collaborations, including Burberry’s first ready-to-wear jewellery collection and custom pieces for Sex and the City.

Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Bittar’s sculptural, expressive designs attracted the likes of Joan Collins, Michelle Obama, and Zoe Kravitz, while earning accolades including the CFDA ‘Accessory Designer of the Year’ award and multiple honours from the Accessories Council of Excellence.

After briefly stepping away from the brand in 2015, Bittar reclaimed creative control in 2020 and relaunched with new boutiques, bold campaigns, and the satirical Bittarverse, a creative ode to New York and its eccentric spirit. By 2024, the Bittarverse had earned a Webby Award and stars like Susan Sarandon and Tyla had been spotted in his latest designs.
