Bri + Jordy by It’s Beautiful Here

The overall vibe was warm, natural and relaxed, with lots of golden, ivory and wood tones

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

Brianna is a florist, and Jordy works in the sports industry. We both love music and films and spend most of our time together either singing in the car on long drives, dancing in the living room to the record player, or watching movies as part of our very serious two-person film club. Our blue heeler Delilah is the love of our lives and comes everywhere with us when she can. We love weekends away, exploring new places, a good glass of wine at the end of the week, and spending time with our family and friends. Ultimately, we are just very easy-going, relaxed and low-key people.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We met over 9 years ago while working together at a cafe in Sandringham, both as baristas. We were friends first because Brianna had a boyfriend at the time, but once that relationship ended, Jordy quickly swooped in and made his move. What was meant to be a fun little fling turned into something serious very quickly as Brianna’s mum passed away, and Jordy really stepped up and was the support she needed during the hardest time. Brianna’s first impression of Jordy was that he was mysterious but also the kindest person ever. Jordy thought Brianna was the coolest girl he’d ever met, especially because of her music taste, haha.

What styling and visual elements worked best for you? (could be things, the florals, particular hire products or your marquee, etc., something the stylist created or simply just the scenic beauty of your location or the existing design of your venue)

The florals were a huge part of the day, especially with Brianna being a wedding florist. She felt like she had seen a lot of the same colour palettes and flowers over the years, so it was really important that everything felt personal to us and reflected our style.

The overall vibe was warm, natural and relaxed, with lots of golden, ivory and wood tones throughout the space. We wanted everything to feel like it had naturally grown there rather than being overly styled, especially because so much of the beauty of the venue came from the gardens. We used butter yellow, deep orange, reds, ivory and greenery to bring in warmth and colour, which tied in with the custom candles, orange blossom and espresso details, Jordy’s brown suit and Brianna’s ivory dress.

What did you enjoy most about the planning process, and do you have any tips for couples starting their wedding planning journey?

We really enjoyed the beginning of the planning process, booking in the venue and key vendors like photographers, food trucks, and really just starting to visualise how the day/weekend would look. Our biggest tip is to book everything in early so that you have plenty of time in the middle to truly understand your vision before it all ramps up near your date. The more you do early, the less stressful it is later on.

Tell us about your vendors. Were there any standout suppliers you would like to make special mention of?

All of our vendors were incredible and made the day unforgettable, but our standout supplier was our photographer, Kat and Scout from It’s Beautiful Here. As Brianna is a wedding florist and is in the industry (and has a background in photography), choosing the right photographers was a big ticket item and one that actually came very easily. We couldn’t believe that we could get two amazing photographers in one, which meant our vision of half 35mm photography and half digital photography could be a reality. This also meant that while one photographer was with us, the other could go around capturing the candid moments of our guests. They were incredible, and already some of our friends getting married have enquired with them for their weddings.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, and is there a story?

Brianna here – I absolutely loved the process of trying on wedding dresses when I initially thought I wouldn’t, and the lovely girls at the bridal curator made it a great experience. Funnily enough, the dress that ended up being the one was a wildcard and was actually my sister’s least favourite, as she couldn’t see the vision I had in mind. It was not what I had envisioned, but once I put it on my body, I just knew it was special, and I had never felt so comfortable, secure and ethereal. We ended up altering the dress slightly but also significantly. We simplified the dress by shortening the train and unpinning some of the draping, but the biggest change was the neckline, which initially was a full plunging V-neck, and we used the leftover fabric from the train to drape beautifully along the bust line. I felt so confident in the dress and never felt more beautiful. Lucky I didn’t listen to my sister (whose opinion I value over everyone else’s haha)

For Jordy’s suit, we knew we wanted something a bit more natural, not a classic tux but also nothing too boho. We found the perfect chocolate brown fabric with Oscar Hunt that was warm yet dark enough that it still had that classic, classy feeling. Jordy loved the experience of getting a tailored suit as he had never done something like that before.

Tell us about your wedding and engagement rings.

Our Wedding was more than just the day itself; we had the venue for 4 days, which made it feel more like a private property than a wedding venue. With there being a farmhouse on site and plenty of Airbnb’s/hotels within walking distance, we had our closest family and friends stay the night before for low-key BBQ vibes, welcome drinks, and dinner. It was the perfect way to start the weekend! The wedding day itself went so smoothly and was so much fun, and most people say that their wedding day flies by, but we really felt grounded and truly in the moment the entire time, as well as making sure we spoke to and had a special connection with all of our guests. We had a recovery the following day as well, consisting of a coffee van and a laid-back BBQ of bacon and egg rolls for the guests who stayed nearby and wanted some food and a coffee for their drive home to Melbourne. The recovery wasn’t a party; instead, it was a very relaxed catch-up and debrief. Overall, the whole weekend felt perfectly ‘us’ – super low-key, relaxed and effortless.

What were one or two elements that were most important to you both that you were happy to spend a little more on? (food, photography, florals, the venue, your outfits?).

We were actually quite budget-focused, and Jordy’s love of an Excel spreadsheet made budgeting really easy. We did feel it was important to splurge on our amazing photographers and venue (we chose to have the venue for 4 days rather than just 1), as well as our thank-you gifts to our amazing friends and family who helped out so much in making the day incredible. The custom candles were expensive, but we thought it was worth it to really encapsulate the day and let our loved ones know how important they are to us.

Was there a favourite moment (or two) that you will treasure always?

Funnily enough, we weren’t planning on doing a first dance at all because we don’t love being the centre of attention or in the spotlight and felt it was a traditional touch we didn’t necessarily need others to have. In the end we decided to do a small 30 second dance to kick of the dance floor to the song ‘that’s how strong my love is’ by Otis Redding which quickly transitioned into SHOUT and got everyone up dancing. We choreographed the dance ourselves the week before on our dog walks which is a special memory for us but the real favorite moment of ours is right before the dance floor started we stole a moment to ourselves in the garden to do a practice which our amazing sneaky photographers caught on camera – but this 30 seconds of just us having fun and being together in the dark away form the party was so special and one we will never forget.

What does being married mean to you, and are there any special rituals you have that you would like to share?

Being married for us is just about spending every day with our best friend and feeling loved, supported and cared for. Both of us mentioned in our vows how the small moments are what make us feel loved, such as brushing our teeth together every night, and if we can’t do it together, putting toothpaste on the other’s toothbrush, waiting for them so they know we are thinking of them.
