AFW Toni Maticevski 2026

The return of theatrical elegance.

For the first time in more than a decade, MATICEVSKI returned to the Australian Fashion Week schedule with a collection that felt both deeply familiar and newly sharpened. Presented within the industrial surrounds of The Collider in Haymarket, the Winter 2026 show unfolded with an intimacy that allowed every sculptural fold, every exaggerated shoulder and every shimmer of organza to be appreciated up close.

As our editor, Greta Kenyon, who was in attendance, reflected after the show, “Toni Maticevski’s return to the runway felt incredibly refined and internationally relevant. There was such a strong sense of emotion and theatricality throughout the show, and beyond the fashion itself, the music created a powerful atmosphere. It was easily one of my favourite shows of the week.

Toni Maticevski has long occupied a singular place within Australian fashion, and this collection reaffirmed why. The Melbourne-based designer’s commitment to craftsmanship and construction remains unmatched, yet there was a notable softness threaded throughout the show. Structured tailoring sat alongside floating panels that drifted behind the body with remarkable lightness. Sharp, architectural lines softened into rippling textures and sheer layers that moved almost like liquid under the runway lighting.

The styling amplified this tension between strength and fragility. Models appeared with slicked hair, elongated gloves and sculptural neckpieces that framed the garments without overwhelming them. A palette of muted creams, smoky charcoals, blush tones and deep black gave the collection a grounded sophistication, allowing the complexity of the fabrication to speak for itself. Eyelash fringing, pointed hips, and curved silhouettes created moments that felt almost otherworldly, while still remaining wearable in the MATICEVSKI sense of occasion dressing.

For Together Journal, what stood out most was the way the collection approached glamour through restraint. Even the more theatrical looks retained an ease and fluidity that made them feel relevant for modern events and formal dressing. Draped gowns with floating organza detailing would translate beautifully for fashion-forward brides, black tie weddings or gallery-like evening celebrations, while the sharply tailored separates and sculptural outerwear offered a compelling alternative to traditional occasion wear.

The salon-style presentation also brought an immediacy to the workmanship. Up close, the precision of the construction became even more striking. Nothing felt excessive. Every fold, texture and proportion appeared carefully resolved.

More than simply a return to the runway, MATICEVSKI’s Winter 2026 presentation felt like a reminder of fashion’s ability to create emotion through craftsmanship, atmosphere and silhouette. It was theatrical in the most considered way, balancing drama and structure. Furthermore, the collection’s relevance extended far beyond the runway itself. The sculptural gowns, fluid layering and sharply tailored pieces offered a compelling vision for modern weddings and special occasions, particularly for those drawn to fashion that feels expressive, artistic and deeply individual.
