AMANDA + DAVID by Lauren Campbell

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship:

Dave: We could quite possibly be the most Yin and Yang couple on earth.

With some examples including our movie choices. I like dark and gritty films; Amanda likes Rom Coms and light-hearted. I hunt and eat meat, and Amanda is a vegetarian. I’m not very good looking, and Amanda could be a model. But we make things work in every aspect of our lives and accept each other, flaws and all.

Amanda: I’m a secondary Dance PDHPE teacher in Western Sydney. Teaching has been a part of my life for a long time now and I absolutely love my job. I love going out to eat, escaping on small weekends away and spending time with my family and friends.

Dave: I’m a Facilities Manager for a property group. I love music, which has been part of my life since I was in high school, playing and travelling in bands. I am also very passionate about the outdoors, hitting the trails for running, or getting out camping and hunting as much as I can.

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details:

We had no specific theme for our wedding, our main goal was to have a very classic wedding and to keep things simple. We naturally went with black, ivory and white throughout the whole process. Our wedding invitations were simple with black writing on ivory textured paper. This set up the pathway for the rest of the wedding.

When it came time for styling, we always just wanted white. We had white flowers with greenery that were absolutely stunning and went perfectly with the beautiful wedding property that was naturally surrounded by greenery.

The flowers were my most favourite visual element of our wedding. The ceremony was done in the beautiful garden under a huge tree that didn’t really need any styling as it spoke for itself.

The canapés were held around the pool area and again we didn’t need to add any styling as the venue was quite unique and had big bold furniture statements positioned around the pool. The marque was a beautiful ivory coloured material. Our tables were white, and we paired them with old brown chairs.

The only styling we did on our tables were the flowers, menus and place cards that I had created myself through Etsy.

Tell us about your main outfits:

Amanda: My dress was from Jennifer Go Bridal in Surry Hills Sydney. That particular day I went shopping with my mother and sister. It was the first dress I tried on for the day. I absolutely loved the bow and fell in love with the dress straight away. I had tried on another four dresses that day but nothing really compared to the first. Working with Jennifer each dress fitting was so easy and effortless – she has amazing attention to detail and listened to exactly what I wanted. I also bought my wedding earrings from her.

The dress was beautifully fitted in an ivory coloured material. There was boning in the top half of the dress and that fitted all the way down.

It is so important to not try too many dresses as it can be overwhelming in a very exciting way, all wedding dresses can be beautiful. But go with your gut and something that suits your personality.

Dave: I had a blue velvet dinner suit from Politix Menswear. It was the first and only jacket that I tried on. I was adamant that I wanted something a little different that suited my style, and it just so happened that it matched so well with Amanda’s dress – you’d have thought we’d meant to style together!

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day:

Amanda: Waking up in the morning! Feeling so excited – not nervous but extremely excited to get the party started! Walking down the aisle to our favourite song XO by John Mayer. Speeches! They are always my favourite part of every wedding. And of course the dance floor!

David- I just remember being so nervous all day, but once we got underway with the ceremony I was fine. I think it was just so nice to have everyone there under one roof to celebrate us as a couple.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together:

We have always said that having open communication is key. Spend time together, have lazy weekend mornings, coffee in bed and share a bottle of red over favourite movies. Laugh laugh laugh!

Always talk constantly; about everything. You’ll keep learning about each other, and everything is much more enjoyable when you can be open and honest. Take time for yourselves as individuals, whether it’s a hobby or other. Lastly, always support each other and have each other’s backs.
