Amy + Jake by Emma Faith

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship?

Jake and I are a pretty “normal” couple who live a simple little life down by the beach with our fur-baby Penny, and that’s just the way we like it.

Jake is an Electrician and I am an Administration Assistant. We live you’re usual 9-5 work week and enjoy just coming home and being in each others presence and cherishing our little home.  We met in high school just over ten years ago and never looked back. We enjoy a little bit of banter about who is the better Aussie Rules player. Hot tip; Maybe don’t play Aussie Rules the year you are getting married, because you might just find yourself with a broken ankle, needing surgery ten weeks out from your wedding and just getting your moon boot off by the skin of your teeth, nine days before you are expected to walk down the aisle. Yep, that happened! Talk about timing!

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details?

The aim for our wedding was for it to be fun, relaxed, natural and easy breezy, which we totally nailed! We believe that your wedding is the one time you are allowed to be a little bit selfish and do it your way! We chose an absolutely stunning location and let the beauty of the land shine through which meant we didn’t need any decorations or floral arrangements, definitely saving us a chunk of money. Our personal choice was not to have a  traditional bridal party but instead we used the morning to get ready with our brothers, sisters and parents, and let them wear whatever they liked. Another way we made the day easy by eliminating the stress of organising a bridal party!

Probably our favourite details of the day would be the food, the fun and the love. Our friends told us that having the food trucks there made them feel like they were at festival with all of their family and friends. How cool! Also having the Caricaturist was so entertaining too. The line-up was about ten metres long, our guests really loved he idea and it gave them a little momento to take home as well. But most of all, having our fur-baby be a part of our big day was so heart warming. She had the time of her life just like we did but she had a few more cuddles and treats than us.

Tell us about your main outfits:

I have never been a lover of wedding dresses so I was on the hunt for something a bit different which I found hard at first, unless you are game enough to order online. It was important to me that I be comfortable on the day and be able to gobble up my chicken burger and champagne without a thought. Then I found my beautiful boho Ederne gown by Pronovias at Jenny & Gerrys Bridal in Adelaide. I paired it with a beautiful and ever so warm jacket by Winona Australia and was so happy with the way I looked and felt. It was just so ME! Jake is not really into fashion or being the centre of attention so he really wanted something plain and comfortable too. He chose a pretty plain white shirt but if you looked close it had a stunning paisley embossed pattern matching his tie. Just a smidge of pizzazz for his big day and it suited him to a tee.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

One of our absolute favourite memories was when we snuck into what we thought was an empty paddock with our photographer to get some beautiful photos under this old tree and out of no-where about five horses came up to us and started striking some serious poses for the camera. Neither of us have ever spent time around horses so were initially a bit scared, but they were really friendly and just wouldn’t leave us alone. They were nibbling on my boquet and nuzzling us like you wouldn’t believe. I like to think that “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” was playing in their heads.

Another hot tip; Consider your surroundings when you book your venue – I.e if your Husband To Be is wildly allergic to horses but you really love the location, maybe pack some antihistamines or at least use the opportunity of his runny nose and eyes to make it look like he is really emotional in the photos. Ha-ha

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

Like they say, the day goes by in the blink of an eye but in reality it is even quicker. Our biggest advice would be to plan the wedding that YOU want. If the two of you are having a fun then your guests will vibe that off of you and enjoy themselves too. Give yourselves a few private moments throughout the day to take a breath and soak it in. We set aside a private picnic after our ceremony to have a quick debrief of our mornings and make sure we had some food (and champagne) in our tummies, and it was honestly the best! You will feel like you are obligated to go around and spend time with everybody, but let them come to you. If you are having fun on the dance floor, then stay on the dance floor. Your guests are happy that you are happy. And our last tip would be not to serve spirits or shots late in the night, it could make for an interesting bus rude home. Xx A&J
