Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love, what is unique about you and your relationship…

We were both born and bred in Melbourne and met at University over 10 years ago. We’re both lucky enough to work in the environmental field, something we’re both passionate about…

That work has opened many doors – mostly recently a three year stint in Edinburgh, Scotland. We absolutely loved it! It catered for all of our greatest passions – insane bars and restaurants, amazing wilderness for camping and hikes, and so close to Europe that we could constantly explore other countries. We now find ourself moving from Scotland to live in sunny Mexico, where the adventure continues! It’s a sad goodbye to whiskey and haggis, and a warm welcome to tequila and tacos!

Tell us about your special day, was there a specific theme or style? Tell us a little about the setting, the styling and some of your favourite details…

We really wanted to embrace Scotland and showcase how awe-inspiring it is to all those who travelled across for the wedding. The venue was perfect for this – historic castle with incredible grounds and gardens, and a stunning view over the Tay River. All the flowers and the styling embraced Scottish wild flowers and the Scottish Thistle which is the National Flower of Scotland. The bouquets were individually designed to match each of the bridesmaid’s different dresses and they were all stunning – the florists absolutely nailed it! We could not have loved colours or the flowers more!

Tell us about your main outfits:

I bought my dress on a very, very hungover Saturday morning. My friends advised me that I shouldn’t make such rash decisions in the state I was in but I knew I loved it. It was from a vintage store around the corner from my house and the dress was about 8 sizes too big for me so it took some intense tailoring from two old Argentinian male tailors who had somehow got stuck in Edinburgh over 20 years ago. They were amazing, hilarious and had some very strong views on some of the shoe options I brought in! Lewi wanted to embrace his Scottish heritage but wasn’t sure about a kilt so he went a tartan suit which worked perfectly. He was originally hoping to wear the traditional Rattray tartan but it’s a bit over the top for a full suit (red and green), so we went for our favourite Black Watch tartan.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

Donna Maciocia, our amazing singer, smashing out her version of Madonna’s ‘Just Like a Prayer’ during the ceremony! I had asked Lewi if it could be our first dance but he refused so I snuck it into the ceremony and it was phenomenal! Our Australian family members embracing their Scottish heritage and wearing kilts – particularly my 4 year old nephews! We both surprised the guests (and each other) by having costume changes late into the night. Lewi busted out an inappropriately short mini kilt, and I whipped out in a LED light up cape. The dance floor turned up a number of levels following the costume changes, aided by some superb DJ work by Brendan Zacharias.

Any advice for other couples planning to spend the rest of their lives together?

• There’s no better way to test/strengthen your relationship than moving to a different country together. Learning to rely solely on each-other is the most challenging and exciting thing you can do and will set you up for any challenge!

• Remember to laugh when sh*t hits the fan – it will make an excellent story after some time has passed!
