Cara + David by Jack In The Box Photography

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

David is a physical education teacher and loves being outdoors, staying active and experiencing life with Cara. Cara is a Training and Development consultant who loves love, travel and socialising with friends and family.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We first met when I (Cara) walked into my local gym for a group training class in October 2018. It was my first class, and David was the fitness instructor. I introduced myself to David with a big smile and a few nerves! As I went to more classes, I got to know David better and better and one day, he asked me if I would like to get a drink with him. The rest is history.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

What we both remember about the first time we met was each other’s happy smile and instant friendliness. David and I attended one of my friends engagement party in 2019. It was the first time we had attended an event like that together- love was everywhere! We danced, drank, ate, played games and spent the entire evening smiling and enjoying each other’s company. At the end of the night, David said to me that he couldn’t wait for this to be us and our party. He also told me later that this was the night he knew he had fallen in love with me.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

I (David) secretly booked an Air bnb down south in Margaret River (3 hours from Perth), an Air bnb that Cara had mentioned she would like to take me. I still didn’t have a plan of how I was going to propose, all I knew is that it was going to be during this trip, I was hoping inspiration would hit during the 3-hour drive! We stopped at a farmer’s market on the way and bought beautiful fresh produce to make a grazing board. Once we had settled into the house, I decided I would do it that night, I said to Cara she should have a shower and I’ll prepare the grazing board. Little did she know while she was in the shower, I was frantically running around the house moving all the indoor plants outside, making a grazing board and pouring champagne to create a romantic picnic. I tapped on the window for Cara to come outside, I put on our song (‘All Yours’ by APRE) and when she came outside, I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me, she said ‘Absolutely!’.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

The type of mood we envisaged for our wedding was simple, fresh and timeless. From the day we started planning we had two very clear pictures in our mind, fresh green location and rattan furniture. The event location ticked both, so it was a no brainer for us!

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

We both decided that the ‘splurge’ item would be the flowers. We didn’t want to overdo it and take away detail from the modern, minimalist venue but the flowers we did have, we wanted to be breath-taking. We had two arrangements on the arbour which made for great photos, an arrangement on the bridal table and some scattered down the guests’ tables. We were so happy with them, they tied everything together.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?

I (Cara) went to many bridal shops around Perth trying to find the perfect dress to no avail. I knew what I wanted, simple, classic, liquid silk. Then I was recommended Faith Anderson Bridal. Faith and I worked together to create my dream dress and veil, we went through the full process from drawings of the dress to finding the perfect fabric and deciding the detailing on the gown and veil. She put in hours and hours of work and made my dream bridal gown and veil a reality.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

Not so much of a stressful moment but the only thing that was unexpected on the day happened just after David and I said our vowels. The venue is considered a ‘farm house’, animals/green grass etc. And on this day, gat this exact time, for some reason these flying bugs came out from the grass! They were everywhere! They flew down my dress, guests were swatting them away and they were all over my dress and David’s suit. We had to get out of there, fast! The photographer was trying to take photos but we were swatting away flying bugs and trying to get them off our outfits (we didn’t want them in the photos!). It was at this moment, Sarah, the photographer decided to change the photo plan and decided to take the whole bridal party to a coastal location close by. This wasn’t pre-planned, but it made for the most incredible and breath-taking photos!
