To celebrate 10 years since they first met, Ashlin and Todd legally said “I do” at the registry’s office in Melbourne last August 4th 2021. After a painstaking 8 months of secret-keeping for the small few involved, they held another country wedding on their family farm in Gippsland in front of 121 guests.
The sun never broke through that morning but the cloud was somehow more atmospheric. She asked me to take a photo of her sitting on a bench. When she turned round, I was on one knee.
I realized that each and every day I woke up next to Katie, I loved her more than every previous day.
We happened to be going to the same music event that following weekend, where I took his hand and flirted my head off. He was quite shy, but I think he got the message at the end and we started dating. That was 10 years ago, and we haven’t looked back since.
“The father of the Bride caught on fire during the reception. Yes, the back of his jacket went up in flames as he was wearing it and his sister had to put him out.”
I knew we had something special from very early on. Being 15 and 17 when we started dating I think most people just thought it would be a high school relationship but we both knew very early on we would be together forever.
“Honestly I wasn’t planning on finding my dress that day at all, I just stumbled upon it at the thrift store 30 minutes before they closed. I didn’t even get to try it on because the fitting rooms were closed for Covid. But since it was only $10 I took a chance on it! Then my co-worker suggested Ann to work on the vintage piece and she did an amazing job in making it my own.”
I had just come out of the water from being dunked, literally looking like a drowned rat and noticed Brock walking toward me with purpose. He dropped one knee to the sand and said “At our favourite place, at the perfect time, I love you, will you marry me.” Short, but very sweet… I of course cried and said YES.
When I dropped him home from our first date, there was something in the pit of my stomach telling me that he was a special kind of character and someone I could see myself having an amazing life with – and I was right because he still makes my cheeks hurt from laughter to this day.
We did long distance for a couple of years, and if I had to choose the moment when I knew Jacob was the one, it would be when he picked me up from the airport in Dallas in the early hours of the morning, wearing the same onesie pyjamas he’d worn to the party where we met.
Then I read ‘will you marry me?’ and looked at Vincent and he was already down on one knee with the ring in his hands. It’s still a blur but I remember being so shocked that I started laughing and left him hanging down there for a good 30 seconds haha!
“Our wedding mantra: more is more! Music, food, cocktails, culture, dancing — all the good things in life.”
