We landed on something small and intimate, at the Point Loma Light House…
Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
Hello! We are Danielle Jackson and Jhordan Gonzalez and we love art, music, food and our pups! Jhordan loves fashion and coffee and is working on merging those two passions, creating a space where people can shop and enjoy both. Danielle has been a professional photographer for over 10 years and is currently the Art Director of Photography at Magnolia. Danielle’s love for food is what got her into commercial photography.
How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
We’re high school sweethearts and we dated for 12 years before deciding to get married. We bonded over both player soccer and our easy going attitudes. We truly became best friends who fell in love and have had the wonderful opportunity to watch each other grow and blossom.
Tell us about the vision you had for the mood and style of your wedding. (theme, key styling elements, florals, colour palettes, etc.).
We did a lot of back and forth on how we envisioned our wedding. We landed on something small and intimate, at the Point Loma Light House where we once went on a past date when we first were dating. It overlooks both the city of San Diego and the Ocean. Even though we were keeping it simple with our venue, there were still a few areas where we wanted to make it more special. During the wedding, we looked for ways to create memories with our family. One of those activities was everyone making their flower arrangement. We knew what flowers we wanted to incorporate and created a mood board for our family to follow. It was one of the most memorable moments from the week; enjoying hanging out with both of our families, surrounded by everyone’s creativity, made seeing them that day even more special.
What styling and visual elements worked best for you? (could be things, the florals, particular hire products or your marquee, etc., something the stylist created or simply just the scenic beauty of your location or the existing design of your venue).
The scenic view from the cliff we were on was breathtaking. It is a unique view because you could see all of San Diego behind you and in front of you and you have the unbelievable view of the ocean. It was perfect for us.
What did you enjoy most about the planning process, and do you have any tips for couples starting their wedding planning journey?
The week of the wedding goes by in a blink of an eye so make sure to set aside time for your last date as a couple. We also had individual disposable cameras. That way we could see the perspective of the wedding day through each other’s eyes.
Tell us about your vendors. Were there any standout suppliers you would like to make special mention of?
Our photographer, Ruthie is such a talented photographer, she was so enjoyable to work with! Leading up to the wedding, she helped by walking us through the whole process and was so organized, making sure everything went smoothly, capturing every memory along the way. When we sat down together to look over the images for the first time, we both teared up because she had captured the feeling of the day so spot on.
Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, and is there a story?
For my (Jhordan) wedding outfit, I wanted to do something that was both unique but also very wearable. I opted for a vintage inspired suit with a mid-weight fabric and unstructured jacket for versatility and easier travel. We both wanted to continue to wear a piece from our wedding outfits as a reminder of our special day. We decided to invest in shoes that we could continue to work into our wardrobes. As for myself, my dress was designed by Ines de Santo. I wanted something very timeless and feminine. As for my shoes, I wanted something that I could easily walk in and could future repurpose into my day to day wardrobe. The shoes I landed on was the Ema from the Spanish company LoQ. They were extremely comfortable during our wedding day and now I get to enjoying wearing them at work.
Tell us about your wedding and engagement rings.
I (Jhordan) custom-made her engagement ring because there was a specific cut, setting, and prong color she wanted to set the diamond in. I sourced the diamond first and then had it set in the ring later. We also liked the vintage look of old wedding bands and were able to find Danielle’s on eBay.
What were one or two elements that were most important to you both that you were happy to spend a little more on? (food, photography, florals, the venue, your outfits?).
An element that we splurged on was our dinner. After our ceremony, we went to dinner with our immediate families to Valle, a Michelin Star restaurant in Oceanside that focuses on modern Mexican seafood, where we had a wonderful dinner. The following day, we threw a dinner party at Jhordan’s Mom’s house where we celebrated with a larger group of friends and family.
Was there a favourite moment (or two) that you will treasure always?
How much the wedding felt like us and where we are now in our relationship. We prioritized things that were important to us and more importantly made sure to try and make as many memories as we could with our families and taking in the time we were in.
