Gabrielle + Greg by George Bowden

We are both creative directors and owners of creative agencies. We are both South Africans. We love travelling, eating out, and spending time on our houseboat in Noosa.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions? We meet about 17 years ago at a Festival In Johannesburg. Gabby: I was 16 at the time and to be honest I don’t remember thinking much haha I did think he was a bit ‘too cool for school’. Greg: I thought she was beautiful but I didn’t want to go to jail as I was 22 at the time. So I put her in the friend zone for many years.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?

We started working together around 2018, and we started to get to know each other on a much deeper level. We realized we had a lot in common both from a work and creative side but also from a personality and compatibility side. We are very much the same in how we think and our dispositions. We like to say that opposites don’t always attract.

Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…

It was at the beginning of 2023. We had just purchased a houseboat in Noosa and were spending the Dec/Jan break on the boat. Greg proposed on the boat with a sneaky 3 am ‘work trip’ to get the ring from the gold coast with a custom-made video of our journey together.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…

We wanted it to be modern and elegant, with all-white flowers. We love the sunshine coast and have spent a lot of time in the hinterland and by the coast, so finding a venue that is both modern and elegant with the hinterland as a backdrop was a must. When we found the roundhill retreat we knew it would be the perfect backdrop!

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?

Flowers!

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?

To be honest, nothing! The day ran so smoothly and all of our suppliers were beyond amazing and all played such a memorable role in our day. Our elopement planner, Brit from Elopement Collective made the planning so easy. She coordinated and found the majority of our suppliers and ensured the day went off without a hitch.
