Georgia + Luke by Sammy & Tom

Georgia & Luke's Shorehouse wedding.

Leading up to the wedding I knew our first dance was going to be something everyone was expecting to be big, as Georgia is a dancer.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love.
Georgia: I was born and grew up in Perth, Western Australia. I am one of 5 girls in my family, and was so lucky to have my 4 amazing sisters standing by my side on our wedding day. I grew up dancing, and made this passion into my career, graduating from the WA Academy of Performing Arts, and have now been teaching dance for over 10 years. I love being by the ocean, and spending time with family and friends. Our wedding day was the perfect mix of all the things I love.

Luke: I was born in the UK and moved to Melbourne, Australia with my family when I was 5 years old, and then we eventually made the move to Perth. I have two big brothers who were two of my groomsmen and a little sister who was one of our witnesses at our ceremony. I’m a highschool teacher who has a passion for all things football (the proper football). I love spending time watching and supporting my team Middlesbrough FC. My family and friends mean the world to me and it was so special sharing our day with them especially those who travelled to be with us. With my family that couldn’t travel from the UK, Georgia put together a video full of messages from loved ones.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
Georgia: We are HIGHSCHOOL SWEETHEARTS and this year celebrated being together for 19 years. We first met at a disco back in 2001, and ended up going to the same high school where we officially started dating in year 10. My first impression of Luke was that he was a smooth talking English teenager, who had chest hair, stubble, the overpowering scent of Tommy Hilfiger and a die-hard football fan.

Luke: I first saw Georgia in 2001 at a Blue Light Disco, where I was too afraid to ask her to dance (let’s just say she definitely taught me rhythm). We ended up at the same high school, Newman College, and on August 16th in 2004 I ran down to the oval after school and asked her out. Since then I’ve been very lucky to call her my girlfriend, best friend, fiance and now my wife. My first impressions of Georgia, beautiful and a goody two shoes at school. As our friendship grew I realised how kind, caring and chatty she could be, spending hours after school talking on our Nokia 3310’s.

When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
Georgia: Growing up together from such a young age Luke’s family became my family, and I just knew he was my forever person. We have celebrated and conquered so many milestones together, and supported each other through all the highs and the lows.

Luke: Being together through High School you never know what will happen, I was crazy about Georgia (still am). I think early on we experienced some big highs and lows and just got through it together. We travelled to the UK when we were 18 and Georgia got to meet my extended family. I just loved going through life with her and didn’t want to stop.

Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
G + L: Our vision for our wedding day was to have a fun, relaxed, stress free day celebrating with our family and friends. We wanted to spend as much time with everyone as possible, as we had a lot of people who had travelled to be with us. Our venue played a huge part in the mood of our wedding. We fell in love with the Shorehouse, by the ocean, with the beautiful deck for mingling during cocktail hour sipping on gin and aperol spritz, and the beautiful long tables and booths in the dining area so we could dine and celebrate completely surrounded by our loved ones. Our day was the perfect mix of love, laughter, great food, amazing views and dancing.

What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
G + L: We were fortunate enough our families were able to help us splurge on the reception venue of our dreams, the Shorehouse. We loved showing them this special place prior to our wedding and what we envisaged and had planned for our special day. The food, drinks and service expertise were just unmatched and so happy we were able to celebrate here.

Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
Georgia: Not so much on the day, but we had our wedding postponed 2 times due to covid (third time lucky). We wouldn’t have had it any other way, and so happy we decided to postpone, even though it was stressful. Our families are so important to us and we wanted everyone to be by our side celebrating.

Luke: Leading up to the wedding I knew our first dance was going to be something everyone was expecting to be big, as Georgia is a dancer. I was so nervous, Georgia had us practicing every night in the lead up. Within the first 20 seconds of the dance I had already made a mistake, it’s something we watch now and have a laugh about.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?
Georgia: My beautiful dress by Prea James was something so different to what I thought I would wear on my wedding day, but I fell in love with it the day I tried it on. I loved that Prea James dresses are designed and made to order in Australia, something that made me fall in love with it even more. It was a perfect combination of relaxed and modern and fitted the style of our wedding perfectly, and was the most comfortable dress to dance the night away in.
