We sparked up a conversation and realised we had a few things in common.
Jack – We live in the Adelaide Hills on a small property, manage a few hectares of vineyards, and run two cafes in the city. We’re passionate about friends and family, drinking good wine, adventuring outdoors, and trying new experiences. Our activities always involve our golden retriever Henley, who loves adventuring as much as we do.
Darcy – We met while I was on holiday in Adelaide. I was on my way to Port Lincoln to go shark cage diving and stumbled across Jack’s cafe, Peter Rabbit. We sparked up a conversation and realised we had a few things in common. On first impressions, Jack had a buzzing energy about him and a real passion for life. He always sees the best in the people and has an infectious optimism.
Jack – The first time I met Darcy, I remember thinking how beautiful she was and thought she had to be from out of town. I was drawn to her intelligence, determination and quirky sense of humour.
Darcy – Jack proposed when we were on the Gold Coast, at the same spot we’d spent our first weekend together. We got up early and went for a beach walk and coffee before he proposed on Miami Beach.
He’d organised some of our family and friends to join us for celebrations that day. Being morning people, we always wanted a day wedding and to get married at home. We were lucky enough to host our wedding on our small vineyard in the Adelaide Hills. We wanted colourful flowers, plenty of food, good music and little touches that represented us. This also meant having Henley involved, who ended up stealing the show. We did a first look at sunrise and it was freezing! But that moment was such a highlight for both of us and worth being cold. The photos are so special and we both really cherished that part of the day together.
Jack – So many things happened throughout the day that we look back and laugh at. Things didn’t necessarily go to plan but that’s what made it extra special.
Darcy – I was initially overwhelmed by the idea of picking a dress so decided that the journey of designing one alongside my bridesmaids would be ideal. I worked with Greta on bringing my dress to life and she really understood that I wanted to be comfortable and feel like myself. Speaking of comfort, I tried on a number of heels before I realised that the best shoes to wear down the aisle were my beloved cowboy boots!
Jack – I just wanted something that fit well and was comfortable. I also wanted to buy a nice suit for my best mates who were joining me on the day so I spent the extra time (and money) on working with Michael from Beg Your Pardon to tailor our suits. The lead-up and the experience was half the fun, trying our suits on and then all going for a beer and bite to eat at the pub was really special.
