Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…
Aaron and I live in the leafy North Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria. We bought our first home together during 2020 which we are currently renovating and expanding. We are so passionate and proud to be creating a family home with memories to cherish and growing old here. We have a Golden fur baby Simba who is three years old and demands daily walks and pats (and we enjoy every bit of it!).
If we’re not busy working on the house over the weekend, you’ll find us out for dinner, exploring local restaurants… Italian and Japanese are our faves! Or we’ll be catching up with our friends and family around the fire pit in the garden. Aaron is an electrician and has his own business and I am a General Manager working full time in the city for a national coworking provider.
How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?
Aaron and I met working at a bakery while we were both in high school over 10 years ago! We only had a few shifts together as aaron is a couple of years older and was about to commence his electrical apprenticeship but I thought he was a very tall and handsome surfer looking dude, way too cool for me , such a clown and mates with everyone! But what really got me was his attention to detail with mopping the floors at the end of each shift, haha! Aaron must have seen something in me too as he ended up asking me on a date and the rest is history!
When did you first realise that this was someone you’d like to spend the rest of your life with?
Getting to know Aaron and his values was the most inspiring and attractive thing to me, he is the most loyal, hardworking and caring person I have ever met. He is able to build such meaningful friendships and gives so much to others without expecting anything in return. He has also worked hard as an electrician for many years and is now a few years into running a thriving business of his own. Each and everyday he inspires me to be a better person, think bigger and take risks, while supporting me every step of the way.
Was there a proposal? Tell us a little about it…
(Images below for reference) On our house settlement day (18 Dec 2020), Aaron had arranged early access to a key for the house and with his friend Ash in the morning (unbeknown to me!) setup one of the bedrooms with the gorgeous long red carpet, candles down the aisle, balloons and ‘Marry Me’ LED sign along with a bottle of Moet and a framed photo of the two of us.
I thought this was the first time we were going to the house together as the home owners after picking up the ‘second’ key around 1pm. Once we arrived and I was taking it all in (digesting how much work was ahead of us to renovate the home!) and I had seen a glimpse of the candle light glowing through a crack in the door and thought to myself, ‘how irresponsible for the previous owner to leave candles burning’. As I wandered into the room to investigate and saw the beautiful display in front of me, I turned to Aaron shocked and he was on one knee with the most beautiful ring I had ever seen and he asked me to marry him! Ash was there hiding in another room and came out to capture the moment for us. It was such a beautiful moment together in our new home, with lots to celebrate over the coming weekend.
Tell us about the vision you had for the mood or style of your wedding…
We both wanted a relaxed cocktail wedding with a touch of formality and tradition. It was everything we could have ever hoped for! Our friends and owners of Mount Macedon Winery Dylan (who was also our MC) and his wife Elisha Grimes were so accommodating with our requests and made our day feel extra special on their stunning property. From the garden ceremony to the indoor and outdoor cocktail reception with drinks flowing, an epic grazing board and food trucks celebrating my polish and greek heritage for dinner, everyone was well fed and hydrated, ready for a good night of dancing ahead under the moonlight out on the deck.
What was one element you were happy to splurge on?
Music! Andrew is a fantastic singer and musician with great energy. He played acoustic guitar for our ceremony, canapes then got the danfloor going with DJ Marc until late in the evening. I have never danced and smiled so much in my life! They nailed my brief with the music and really read the crowd, all of our guests of all ages said this was one of the most memorable parts of our wedding day!
Did anything happen on your wedding day that you laugh about in hindsight (even if it was stressful at the time)?
What was a slight inconvenience at the time but more funny now was getting cow poo on my dress as we were taking photos with the wedding party out in the paddock! Aaron helped me easily clean it off the bottom of my dress in the bridal suite and when aaron and I were doing our sunset photos, these huge crickets kept getting stuck in the layers of my dress! We really got immersed in the elements to get the amazing photos, haha!
Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, is there a story?
I wanted a dress that was timeless, romantic & fun! I wanted to really feel that I was in a wedding dress, something that I would not normally wear and the Grace Loves Lace dress was a dream! It had a beautiful stretch lace pattern and elastic waistband so it was really light, flexible and easy to get into and wear, which meant that I only had to worry about having fun! I also adored the GLL veil and earrings with the dress. It came together so nicely. As I am quite tall, and the dress was really long, I wore comfy yet stylish strappy white shoes from Bared with a block heel (so helpful for getting around in the paddocks for those photos!) For Aaron’s outfit, we both liked the relaxed formal look (not sure if that’s what you’d call it!) with the tan jacket, white shirts and black pants/boots and bow tie. He looked so handsome. Aaron’s wedding band was his dad’s who is sadly no longer with us. I had it polished and engraved with our initials and wedding date, this was very sentimental for us.
