Lauren + Adam by Kitty Loves Love

I was born in Perth and I’m a Project Administrator for a residential building company and Adam was born in Gore, New Zealand and is an arborist. We love spending weekends away in some secluded little cabin where we can soak up the isolation and just be with each other. We have a nice little home in Perth along with our old cat Seth and our five ducks where we spend our time growing vegetables or sitting by the outdoor fire with friends enjoying good wine and even better food.

We met in early 2009 on the dating site Oasis Active (cringe). We spoke very briefly over the app and decided to meet up at The Paddo, a bar in Mt Hawthorn. For me, the idea was not super exciting; we hadn’t spoken very much and I was losing interest in the whole online dating scene. So, the day of the date I was actually going to stand him up! My housemates encouraged me to just give it a go and I am SO glad I did. The following week he invited me around to his house where he cooked me steak and served warm wine. He still cooks for me almost every day (with better wine choices) and is the most amazing man in the world to me.

Adam and I have faced some struggles over the past 7 or so years, trying to have our first child, and through that we have become a lot closer. He’s incredibly dependable, hard working, considerate and loyal. He has really been the rock of the relationship and supported me through my darkest times.

Adam proposed to me in New Zealand in January of 2016. He planned a nice little day trip to Milford Sound and was going to pop the question beside some waterfalls but because there were so many tourists he freaked out and couldn’t do it. The following day he took me to a beautiful park in his hometown and asked me to be his wife. There was no big event, just me and him and a promise to spend the rest of our lives together.

We wanted to bring our wedding back to basics, to just celebrate our love. We had been engaged for five years and had a window of time between rounds of IVF where we decided to finally do it. We planned a low key wedding in Northbridge where we went to Ezra Pound to have some pre-ceremony cocktails to ease the nerves before heading to Old Tower House for the ceremony with 14 of our nearest and dearest. After the ceremony we made our way to The Royal Hotel, strolling through the back streets of the city taking photos with the coolest of backdrops. Our photographer Kitty is amazing (a TOTAL understatement). We wanted to enjoy our day and have those moments captured, as opposed to staging things. Every photo tells a mini story.

I had planned on making my own bouquet until Kitty introduced me to Nat at Fleur Societe and I am so thankful she did. Nat took so much time and effort to include flowers that had a sentimental value to me such as the gorgeous orchids as an ode to my beautiful nan who loved them, and even some string of pearls from our garden that she spray painted gold and added to our blooms so that we’d have a piece of home with us.
