I wanted the wedding to have a country club garden feel.
JULIE —— I work as a recruiter for INDUS Technology and Jasper works as a sales manager for a liquor distribution company. We met in Macon, Georgia where I ran a social tennis league called “Sets and the City” that Jasper had joined.
We started dating long distance when I moved to Nashville for work and then he came to live with me in San Diego. Jasper has been the most important person in my life since we met. He accepts me for who I am and never judges me. Jasper has been the most important person in my life since we met. He accepts me for who I am and never judges me.
Jasper proposed in the house that we’d just bought together. When I heard him come home early from work, I ran down to the garage to say hello, which made him slam the flowers he’d bought me in the car door because he didn’t want me to see them! He then told me to run up and get laundry so he could have time to get the ring and surprise me. When I came downstairs, he was standing there with a ring box in his hand. (I was wearing sweatpants, an oversized t-shirt and slippers!) I thought the ring box contained earrings he had given me for Christmas and didn’t realise he was proposing until he dropped down to his knees. It was so perfect. I couldn’t have asked for a better proposal.
I wanted the wedding to have a country club garden feel and I wanted to incorporate as much colour as possible. Since Jasper and I met through tennis, I wanted that to be included, with a lounge feel to the happy hour. The aim was for the wedding to look as beautiful as possible, which was achieved through our flowers.
Since I live out of the country where I got married, I wanted my florals and décor to be cross-functional and utilised in numerous areas of the venue. The dinner took much longer than we had anticipated which meant people kept drinking, which meant we had the best time dancing around the tables, talking and enjoying ourselves while waiting for the next course.
My wedding planner and photographer kept the party going and made it the most enjoyable time. During the first dance, my headband went flying off my head but that turned into a photo op, with all the guests passing my headband around taking pictures wearing it! Those are probably my favourite photos from the day.
I’m a big fan of puffy sleeves and large bows. Fortunately, I ended up finding a dress that featured both, as well as a gorgeous pearl headband instead of a veil (so as not to hide the bow at the back). I wanted the dress to be dramatic with a train. Since the wedding was at a castle, the aim was for a Bridgerton-type appearance!
