Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love..
Lauren and Seth work in Washington, DC and love to explore the city together. They had never been to the National Gallery of Art, so they decided to take photos there, surrounded by art from previous generations.
Tell us about the vision you had for the mood and style of your wedding. (theme, key styling elements, florals, colour palettes etc.).
The vision for this shoot was simple, structural, and art-filled. We wanted Lauren’s dress to feel as if it were a sculpture that would be found in the art museum itself. We chose light colored florals to bring in a little extra light in such a dark location. It added just a touch of vintage, soft romance.
What styling and visual elements worked best for you? (could be things, the florals, particular hire products or your marquee, etc., something the stylist created or simply just the scenic beauty of your location or the existing design of your venue).
The dark, ambient lighting created a romantic setting for us. Most of the time, we just wandered the halls and admired the paintings, and in between, Seth would just admire Lauren.
What did you enjoy most about the planning process, and do you have any tips for couples starting their wedding planning journey?
We loved finding a new and unique space for the elopement. I think one of the biggest things to keep in mind while planning is to consider what you enjoy and how to incorporate that into the wedding day. This couple loved art, but they had never been to this museum, so they were excited to experience a new place together. When planning, it’s important to add fun elements into the style that you enjoy – whether it’s a pop of colour or a uniquely shaped dress.
Tell us about your vendors. Were there any standout suppliers you would like to make special mention of?
Emily Lin from Love Blooms DC created the beautiful bouquet for Lauren. It was styled after vintage bouquets with ribbon tied into them.
Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, and is there a story?
Seth wanted to wear a classic tux with a bow tie to coordinate with the historic venue. Lauren wanted something simple that didn’t take away from the location, but fit right in with the structured bodice. The lace under the skirt added a romantic softness, and the neck scarf brought in a more fashionable moment.
Was there a favourite moment (or two) that you will treasure always?
Admiring the art and walking the dim halls of the museum’s third floor. Every new corner we turned was filled with a new piece of art that reminded us of our childhood and made us look forward to the future and our legacy.
