Liv + Joe by The Curries

Joe and I have been together for 10 years. We’ve pretty much grown up together, from awkward dates watching 17 Again (we were just shy of 16) to being husband and wife. Joe is a photographer who shoots fashion, events and weddings. I’m a blogger and author. We love lazy Sundays on the sofa, seaside adventures in the UK (rain or shine), and our little furry daughter Maggie.

We met on Myspace, which shows how long we’ve been together! I knew Joe’s sister so it wasn’t a total shot in the dark. We had our first date on Record Store Day in the UK, nervously watching some of our favourite bands together with clammy hands and my friends there for moral support. I love that we’ve experienced so much together, from long distance to university dropouts and all of life’s challenging, beautiful moments in between.

It’s the times where we’re lying in bed laughing at a YouTube video or watching weird panel shows that make me feel the luckiest. I found doing the long-distance thing, while we were at uni, hard work. It seemed he was always having more fun than I was. (Joe: I definitely wasn’t having as much fun as she thought! But it was tricky; you have to make time for each other in a way that would otherwise come naturally.) A couple of weeks after we moved into our first home together, and the day after Joe’s birthday, he threw a surprise party. I thought it was a birthday party or housewarming, but all our closest family and friends were there, and he got down on one knee in front of them and we all celebrated with pizza and dancing until the early hours. It was perfect.

We really wanted the wedding to be in London. We settled on the magical Queen’s House in Greenwich, 20 minutes from our home. We had our favourite dinner (spaghetti bolognese) and a cake table stacked with bakes our family and friends had brought. I didn’t set out to have a pink wedding dress, it was just the dress I felt most happy in. Joe initially floated the idea of a pink suit (not knowing I’d gone for pink too), but went for the most perfect Oliver Sweeney suit.

Highlights? The car journey from the hotel with my dad to the venue was magical; we pootled along in a 2CV and I felt like the queen as we drove by the cricket at Oval with people looking at us going past! Walking down the aisle and seeing nobody but Joe. The speeches. Trying Pimm’s for the first time! Seeing so many smiling, loving faces. Dancing late into the night, then collapsing into bed feeling full of love.
