Margot + Matthew by Julie Rivière

Le Petit Roulet has such stunning architecture and is filled with beautiful greenery.

Tell us a little about yourselves, what you do, what you love…

We’re a Canadian couple living in London, working in media and finance. We love making the most of weekends – whether that’s travelling somewhere new, trying restaurants we’ve been eyeing, or exploring different corners of the city. When we’re home, our favourite moments are the simplest ones: spending time with friends and family, usually with a good glass of wine or a Guinness in hand.

How/where/when did you meet – and what were your first impressions?

We met at university! There was definitely an immediate spark, but we spent several years as friends first. It gave us such a strong foundation, building our relationship on a genuine friendship from the very beginning.

What styling and visual elements worked best for you? (could be things, the florals, particular hire products or your marquee, etc., something the stylist created or simply just the scenic beauty of your location or the existing design of your venue).

We really wanted to lean into the natural beauty of the venue while bringing in a sense of fun and personality. Le Petit Roulet has such stunning architecture and is filled with beautiful greenery, so we kept things soft and seasonal to complement the space. Our planner, Mathilde, was incredible at guiding us toward pieces that felt true to both the venue and our style. And our florist absolutely transformed the space as well – creating arrangements with unique shapes, fun colours, and textures that far surpassed our Pinterest vision!

What did you enjoy most about the planning process, and do you have any tips for couples starting their wedding planning journey?

We loved building out the vision together. Mathilde played such a key role in helping us refine our ideas into something that worked for the venue and our budget, and once we had that foundation, we really trusted her to bring it to life. Our biggest advice would be to find vendors you genuinely trust – once you do, let go a little and enjoy the process!

Tell us about your vendors. Were there any standout suppliers you would like to make special mention of?

We truly feel so grateful for every single vendor we worked with – they made the entire experience feel seamless and joyful. Mathilde, our planner, was a constant source of calm and support. She joked early on that things might go wrong, but we’d never know about it – and she absolutely delivered on that promise, allowing us to be fully present the entire day.

Our photographer, Julie, made us feel so comfortable from the very beginning. It was clear how much she genuinely loves what she does, and that care really came through in how she captured every moment.

Our florist, Lila, completely exceeded our expectations – the florals were beyond anything we could have imagined, and we were honestly heartbroken to leave them behind.

And our DJ, Kevin, brought so much energy to the evening – he kept the dance floor full all night and was one of the most talked-about parts of the celebration. We couldn’t have asked for a better team.

Tell us about your main outfits, what was unique, and is there a story?

Matt wore a dark brown linen blend suit, and I chose a light chiffon dress with a soft rose pattern. We wanted to feel like a bride and groom, but still comfortable and in tune with the relaxed atmosphere of the day, and not overly formal.

There was also a very special (and slightly unexpected) detail – my veil didn’t arrive in time, so I reached out to friends and family at the last minute. Thankfully, my mom still had the veil my grandmother had made for her wedding day, and I was able to wear it. It ended up being one of the most meaningful parts of my outfit. And to stay true to myself, I paired everything with Zara shoes, haha.

Tell us about your wedding and engagement rings.

Matt’s wedding band and my engagement ring are from the same jeweller in London. They complement each other while still being quite different – something that feels very reflective of us. My wedding band was custom-designed by a friend to wrap around my engagement ring, which made it even more special. We’re so grateful she took it on at the last minute – it turned out perfectly!

What were one or two elements that were most important to you both that you were happy to spend a little more on? (food, photography, florals, the venue, your outfits?).

Food, drink, and photography were the priorities for us. More than anything, we wanted our guests to have an amazing experience – especially since living abroad means we rarely have all our favourite people in one place. For us, that means lots of great food, good wine, and a flowing bar.

Photography was equally important. We tend to live in the moment and often forget to take photos, so having someone we trusted to capture the day authentically meant everything.

Was there a favourite moment (or two) that you will treasure always?

In true form, we were finishing our vows the day before the wedding, sitting across from each other at the same table, and working on speeches at the same time. Our families and wedding party weren’t much different – there were last-minute edits happening right up until the ceremony, even delaying the procession slightly.

It was chaotic, a little funny, and completely unpolished – but also incredibly “us.” Those in-between moments of figuring things out together, both before and during the day, are some of the ones we’ll treasure most.

What does being married mean to you, and are there any special rituals you have that you would like to share?

To us, marriage is a commitment to lifelong friendship, partnership, and being each other’s biggest supporters. We love the idea that it’s not about becoming one person, but about sharing two lives – experiencing the world through each other’s perspectives, challenging and growing together along the way. More than anything, we feel incredibly grateful to have a partner to take on life’s adventures with.
